    walk out

Reedsville, Tx. states that any student who walks out/protests in class over what happened in Fla. will receive a 3 day suspension and all the trimmings. Parents notes are not accepted, still will be punished.

Well Sam ... one of the biggest problems we have in this country is the lack of involvement of our youth,,,, they spend every available moment staring at a smart phone .

Something has suddenly sparked them out of their coma .... and its an issue we wish would just disapear .....but it won't

I'm thinking that they are protesting having to live in fear of going to school ... or the mall ... or church . Its a legitimate bitch really for kids living in the United States ... don't ya think?

So they have a view point and get punished ... is that what we're really all about ??

This is the cause du jour. Don't recall massive protests over drugs, underage drinking, teenage pregnancy, etc.

So SP do you really want the youth of this country launching protests led by a bunch of liberal teachers?

Do you really want minors walking the streets instead of being in school?

Seems heavy-handed. Somebody is nervous. Missing school is bad so if you do it you'll get a 3-day suspension. A bit like telling your kid "hitting your brother is wrong and if you do it again I'm going to smack you good". Wouldn't be the first or last time school administrators are ham-handed in the face of public controversy.

Depends on what the schools rule books says about excused or unexcused absences. If they have their parent permission then so be it. If they don't and the rules say you can't then they face the consequences of their decision.

Why have a rule disallowing the walkout? If someone wants to do it, they'll just do it.

Apparently so. There are still those stuck back in the '60s and '70s who think the younger you are, the more you know.

You only live in fear if you choose to. Strange that they're not afraid of texting while driving and doing drugs- which kill waaay more kids than guns.

And don't for a minute think Mikey Bloomberg isn't involved in all of this protest crap.

Well Sako ... I very recently watched men in camo and flak armed to the teeth protecting people waving Nazi Flags on the streets of an American city ....

I 'm pretty sure I didn't feel any more comfortable with that either

ill give ya this one. always found it dumb myself. in school suspension (sitting your butt in a room all day long), or many hours of detention is a much better deterrent. a kids mentality is that if skipping one day gets you 3 more days free, hey why not. especially in this day and age where parents wont make the kid wish they had stayed in school.

Walk out if you really feel that strong and are willing to pay the price, it is that easy. Are the student[s] willing to pay the price if a student feels that strongly. Everything a person does has a price, how much are you willing to pay. I carry a PDW for protection, I paid the price by training, training, training and the willingness to protect myself and others.

We had a walkout protest in 1971. Marked as classes cut. Punishable by up to 3 days detention for each class. (They don't do that anymore.) Well, it's tough to hold back a few thousand students after classes so they put a mark on our PERMANENT SCHOOL RECORD!!! *hear the echo?* That still puts shivers down my spine

Back then we protested something negatively affecting our school and our school only. It wasn't for political reasons. There was no excuse for truancy. The hippies tried to organize rally's after school or during lunches with little success. We greasers and jocks weren't very kind to the hippie-freak kids then, but we did draw funny pictures of Nixon
