The list of "official" failings just goes on & on: first & probably foremost, the social workers who, despite having seen clear evidence of the killer's psychotic tendencies, swept it all under the rug, then the FBI, now this coward Deputy. And yet who's the No. 1 Villain? The NRA.

The victim's families should file civil negligence suits against the county social services dept., the FBI, & the Sheriff's Dept., but instead the only parties sued will probably the gun maker & gun store owner.

Seems to me your reasoning is a lot of the problem . The time has come full blown to fight back . These jack asses doing the shooting are shooting setting ducks , see how they fair under returned fire . Hell , it's worth a shot , instead of just throwing in the towel . The shooters aren't well trained , just assholes taking advantage of easy pickings .
But , I will agree the average teacher ain't the best bet , but a determined teacher might make difference .
Personally think it should be left to well trained personnel and as said by Wayne la Pierre , if political , rich , and the Hollywood elite really care about the children , give up their security to pay for the kids security . If they try to tell us unarmed security won't make a difference , then why do they waste thier and our money on it ?
Because even the crazies consider getting thier asses snuffed before thier agenda plays out as a turd in thier pudding .

i dont think the prescription is more violence, i think its more of a physical deterrent. though even if it comes to actual violence, better the violence be directed at a mass murder than unarmed, innocent children sitting in a class room. since the israeli's have sort of made this work, we can look at them and see that they just dont have attacks on schools since they installed armed teachers. so, you could look at it as reducing violence. of course in the end its all semantics geared at pleasing whatever stance you take.

He will have to live with it. No one knows how they will act til it hits the fan. Happens to cops, members of the military, etc etc. Most active shooters historically kill themselves as soon as they are pressured. It would be interesting to know if the local LE agency subscribes to minimum two person teams. Active shooter response has had to evolve. After Columbine it was four person elements. That evolved into two, as time is only on the shooters side. This has partially evolved into first on scene engages on their own. However there is still push back to that. Personally I subscribe to that. Two main reasons, as stated historically A.S. Kill themselves when pressured which ends the killing, two I would like to think it would be better to go down fighting and buy some time then live with knowing I did nothing. There are plenty of examples where SROs or first arriving street cops have engage A.S. Unfortunately it looks like this is not one of them.
