The dod does exactly what it has to do to keep the money flowing. Over the years, that has meant sucking up to the demokrats to avoid getting their financial rope shredded. After all, they know they have the support of Republicans and most Conservatives. The demokrats hold them by the short hairs. Having to accept women in anything more than support roles was pushed by the demokrats in the name of gender equality. Unit effectiveness was and remains irrelevant. Had the demokrats won on 11/8/16, the response to this sort of concern would have echoed Benghazi ... i.e., "What does it matter?" JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

Some years ago PBS ran a documentary on life on a modern aircraft carrier. Yes, men and women in tight quarters. Young people, just out of high school, who said that being on a carrier is a lot like being back in high school, and officers saying that yes dealing with stuff is part of the job. Men and women have to learn how to live with each other and be grown up about it. Sometimes stuff happens, often it doesn't. Sure the conservative Muslim countries don't have these particular problems, but I don't see you swearing allegiance to Allah and changing your name to Sam el Shabbaz. In our open society we expect people to deal with their urges in appropriate ways. Maybe the answers you seek can be found in the Koran.

Those of us who have served know that too many military "leaders" CANNOT deal with it. Indeed they are often the cause. "Back in high school "? The school day ends and that obnoxious boy who pesters you goes home-and so do you. Then the weekends come-and the school year ends. "Be grown up about it" ? And what's the difference between the Army and the Boy Scouts ? Troops find all sorts of ways to sabotage the careers of obnoxious overbearing ticket punching self-serving superiors. Sherlock, if you can't solve the case with what I've given you, then you never will. Yes, physical strength is important in many military jobs, and women have less of it. Yes, people of opposite sexes, especially young people, sometimes get randy, especially when undersupervised. It's the job of leadership to keep a handle on that. Sorry to underwhelm you but there is nothing new here. 'Trax is right, you are projecting, but from what I can tell it's sexual fantasies, from your boy scout days, onto the military.

The only pseudo sexual fantasies that are mentioned are what the both of you proclaimed, I was referring to Freudian issues of levels...Id, Ego, Super Ego also know as Altruistic. Some people when questioned too closely the motivation goes from the Ego to the Id. Often there is a level of emotional retardation due to juvenilistic overindulgence of ethanol,hence the retardation of emotional maturity and the subsequent inability for logical congruency. Nothing more can be gained by such juvenile discussion with above mentioned.

Actually, Vern, though Marine Corps and not Army, the principle is the same. This guy gets at some of what you're talking about. Treating female grunts like sh*t becomes problematic.

What's problematic is not treating them like sh*t; to the same degree as the men, that is. What ALL the cops I know say about women in their units is that for them, "allowances" have to be made; men who don't give them extra slack expose themselves to the accusation of harassment, so to avoid making waves, they take up the slack themselves.

And in combat, there is no ability to take up any slack. Everyone has to pack the gear, or people die.
