Heck, it's not books, they want to burn the Constitution!

[They already use it a toilet paper.]

Remember the "jim crow" democrats, used the poll taxes and intimidation, &
other means to DENY the "slaves / sharecroppers" the right to vote.
Now the "progressives" now want to reinstate 'state's rights" to have 'SANCTUARY CITIES", endorse piecemeal gun rights restrictions, and
universal right to vote for showing up at the border.

One of the most controversial books of all time was The Story Of Little Black Sambo. It was published in Scotland near the end of the 19th century. Following this it was republished in many editions in this country and around the world. There was even a cartoon version shown here in 1935. It's interesting to watch:

The 1935 cartoon was Picaninny, but in the book I had as a kid he was Indian (India)...and there are no tigers in Africa.

Amos and Andy set the pattern for many sitcoms-The Honeymooners is Amos and Andy in whiteface.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed with Republican votes-the Southern Democrats voted against it to a man. Like wise the civil rights laws of the Reconstruction Era passed with Republican votes.
In his Message to Congress urging passage of the Ku-Klux Acts, President Grant-R noted that:
"They have conspired to deny Negro citizens the right to own and bear arms."
Sambo was the hero of his story-he defeated the tigers.

Remember Sambo's? I think there was a tiger in the logo. All night restuarant(damn French). Interesting crowd at four in the morning when your getting breakfast before work.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

I remember them WELL, because I made a point of stopping at them when traveling. Believe it was sometime in '80s when those folks who make a career out of taking offense where none was ever intended--there are millions of them--began attacking the chain on the grounds (false, of course, but what does that matter?) of...what else, anti-black racism. In vain, did Sambos point out that the original Sambo of the children's book was an Indian boy living in the jungles of India; but of course, in this country, there can be no defense against a charge of racism--if a "person of color" makes the charge, it's considered irrefutable. Would a "person of color" falsely accuse anyone? PC says NO!

There were organized protests at some stores, but the false accusations gleefully reported by the national media forced the chain out of business.

Contrary to popular belief, sometimes "the trolls" actually take part in the general course of conversation that's going on around them. I didn't detect any trolling in this thread. Only the evolution of the topic at hand.

Other threads? That's a different subject. Especially when my favorite 'Devil's Advocate' kicks it into high gear. LOL heh heh...that fookin' cheesehead

IIRC Sambo's collapsed because it was basically a Ponzi scheme.

Maybe...but the bogus "racist" hysteria didn't help their bottom line.

I have a Sambo's mug on my shelf along with a Hooters,
a Bimbos and a Mustang Ranch. All gleaned from the Salvation Army.
Coffee Mugs - just one of my many collecting hobbies.

JB the Brewers are hanging tough through a stretch where some guys are dinged up. Cubs have a lot of firepower though.

One game differential between two teams which are both the best in the National League. This is turning into a season to remember. Cubs had that nasty slump and are still chomping at it. Brewers are long overdue for another turn in the lime lights. Cubs have something to prove. After three consecutive trips to the NLCS and the big one, White Sox fans STILL need convincing it wasn't just a fluke. If you were 85 minutes further south you would understand.
Then again if the Astros repeat I could be just about as happy.
