In fairness, with the "Evil Empire" having gone into the "dustbin of history", exactly what IS the mission of the Bundeswehr ? The Russians are 1,000 miles away, I don't think they face any threat from the Poles, the Czechs, the Slovaks, the Danes-the French, and there is widespread objection to using German troops for peacekeeping missions. And too many years of relying on us to be their shield has made them flabby. The Japanese find themselves facing an increasingly assertive People's Republic and the South Koreans learned from the beating they took in the Korean War.

NATO has ceased to be a war fighting organization. As a result of the fall of the Soviet Union NATO members, the US included have drawn down their force structure. When I look at the Org chart of NATO I see a bloated organization not a war fighting organization. We need to pull out of NATO.

Now that makes sense, so our politicians won't do it.

Gas is less than 20% of Germany's energy mix, and right now they get 50% of it from Gazprom, and with Nord Stream 2, it could go higher, to 60-70%. Trump opposes Nord Stream 2, presumably for the same reason that the Obama administration opposed it, because it is a direct Russia-Germany pipeline that puts smaller Easter European countries in a more vulnerable gas supply situation, Russia-wise. Gazprom needs the German market perhaps more than Germany needs Russian gas, and the EU has taken steps to make it more difficult for Russian suppliers to play games with the taps while keeping access to that European market.

So Trump was just blowing sh*t out of his *ss at Germany, same as he always does. Germany is a captive to Russia? Hello? East Germany? With Soviet Troops? This is a friendless man, entirely lacking in depth, who divides the world into two camps: enemies and admirers. The sooner he is out of office the sooner the job of picking up the pieces begins. It will take at least a decade to clean up the mess of one term of Trump.

Before we write off the Germans, I suggest that those of us who occasionally take a peek at the historical record read the comments of Julius Caesar concerning the Germans. Regards, Clark

Including the millions who voted for him? Or do you mean friendless among left-wingers, like the heads of most European socialist countries? To have friends among THEM is a reproach, not an honor.

And what's wrong with dividing people up into friends & enemies, leaving room maybe for a few fence-sitters? Failing to do so is failing to recognize the reality of human relations.

If Caesar had found himself opposed by a nation indoctrinated since elementary school in pacifism & extreme PC, he'd have thought differently.

So many empires have had a "German front". Good point, Clark!

CH, are you a FOD (Friend of Don)? Remember FOBs (Friends of Bill)? Of course you do! Those millions who voted for Trump fall into the category of admirers in his world. A case can be made that POTUS can't afford to have friends, but countries can, and Trump takes the whole friendless thing to a new level on behalf of us all. Can I say I liked it better when America had friends? When Canada wasn't an enemy? That's too much to ask?

Once again I caution you against believing what you read in the gutter press. The SUN does not have a great reputation for accurate reporting.

Yes, it IS too much to ask, if the price of retaining such "friends" means accepting, or even pretending to accept, their left-wing agendas.

Eddie you're new, so it may take awhile to get used to the idea that many in this bunch don't care if a thing is real or accurate or not, so long as it confirms their preexisting biases.

Togor is an excellent example of this. Whatever Trump says is horrible; whatever Obama or Clinton says is God's own Word - even when they're saying the exact same thing.

Togor's just a sad little man.

BB, you need look no further than post #5 of this thread for evidence that refutes your assertion.

I may be generally dismayed at Trump, particularly his style, but I can keep my eye on the ball. A fact which infuriates Red even more.

They were stupid to try then, they are stupid to let their country die now. Stupid is as stupid does. In WW2 the dumb asses thought they were going to take on the US without a production 4 engine bomber. Sounds like they believed that super race crap. We showed them the errors of their ways, just like we did with the Japs. At least the Japs lasted a little longer until Little Boy and Fat Man said "Hi".

Good points Dolt. They rapidly outran their supply lines and didn't have real depth behind all their manpower. The leading generals knew that but the little lance corporal was giving the orders. They did accomplish a lot in 1940, but this is 2018 and what have they got?
