My Truck is getting on in years, like me, but we both continue to function.

She's in bad shape. What that don't say is that she has already been dismantled. Planes cannot take off or land. No food in the galley. Went on her once when I worked for the yard. That's a unique ship. Rust never sleeps. Odd to think that in a way a carrier is rusting away as they build it. It's a never ending battle. That's basically what did her in, and the cost of refueling the reactors.

Jeez, isn't every launch seconds away from disaster? It's fast moving. VT-23 sent students out to the old carrier in the Gulf of Mexico. I kind of wanted to work out there but never got the chance.

I suppose that it is totally politically incorrect but it seems to me that least expensive way to handle her is to take out the reactors, tow her to a very deep part of the Pacific and then sink her. Alternatively it can be sunk in shallower waters and become an artificial reef and a diver's Mecca.

Taking into account what it costs to prep a ship for artificial reef these days, it may be more prudent to let the scrappers bid on it and be done with it.
