When I left Young and Rubicam it didn't mean I could
go back any time to use their bathroom or their copier,
so why when these people leave whatever Agency they
worked for are they allowed to go back and listen to
secret conversations. It's ridiculous and made even more
so when they use their credentials to sabotage the new
administration that ousted them in the first place.

Security clearances are based on "need to know," If you're no longer working, you no longer have a need to know, and your security clearance ought to be revoked automatically.

It has not been a problem in the past for such clearances to remain. What changed? Why is it now a problem? Why is it a problem that anyone uses information, training, relationships, etc., gained in such employment to make money in the private sector? Sincerely. bruce.

It has nothing to do with the idea that people leave government service and cash in on it in the private sector. One look at the number of people who have left his administration to join his campaign or some other GOP operation should tell you that. Of course the other reason for that could be to lock them into NDA and arbitration clauses. One thing Trump definitely doesn't like is the little people around him getting their day in court if their relationship with him goes south for them.

All true, but there is another reason. As long as they have a security clearance they have access (legitimate or not) to inside baseball stuff they'll use to bash the Prez. That does. indeed, help the pundits more marketable.

Clearances are now periodically reviewed and eventually are supposed to go away. I had a top secret clearance when I left the 'gubmint which has long since lapsed but I had no need whatsoever for the day I left my government job.

For ordinary people, that's true. For the well-connected, apparently not.

To allow people who no longer need security clearances to keep them is sloppy at best, and dangerous at worst.

Coffee! Personally prefer Death Wish! Good stuff. As to CIA agents, etc., the statement stands as written. It has not been a problem for former military/govt. employees to take their knowledge/skills, information, training, relationships and use it in the private sector. It has been SOP. Security clearances were continued for many people, some of whom probably merited it while at least a large minority kept such clearance merely and only b/c it was custom, etc. Now ... all of a sudden ... some folks are getting all hot under the collar at what has been SOP since at least FDR/Truman/Eisenhower. So ... as to the question ... exactly what changed? To be more specific, what has changed such that these individuals who once were cleared for high level information access are now all of a sudden not worthy of such trust? Sincerely. bruce.
