I know he's been labeled as a RINO, but I voted for him twice when he ran for POTUS.

Wonder what kind of death-bed curse he left on Trump? No kidding--can easily imagine that some statement not naming Trump explicitly, but clearly intended to condemn his policies, will be read at his funeral.

I do not know much about his politics but from what I understand he was a patriot, he served his country and he was a POW during the Vietnam war. If I have my facts straight he has my respect.

-if he took the release he would have been ostracized by everybody. So he did what he was his only option.-
In the first place I have always been amazed that the NV would even offer such a thing. Yes, his only option. Show some style and reject it. How does that make him a hero? Well, reject an offer to leave a prison camp? That takes balls in my opinion, but I'm not up on the whole story. Anyway; John McCain has always been a tough SOB. When he was younger and in politics he was known to have a bad temper. He could be a little scary. Kind of like some of the pilots I delt with in my young aviation days. Keating five? AZ has always been a real estate scam state. Maybe he got caught up in it. I don't know. Arizona has had a couple of goveners(probably a french word) impeached. One of them was the spitting image of Trump. Through it all McCain has shown style. We were lucky to have him and some other great politicians call this state home.If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.Comment

I never said he was a hero, I truly do not know.
But as a person who has not served in the military I seem to have more respect for those who have, than those who have.
All those who written a cheque for all they have are deserving of respect, combat and non-combat veterans.

Red, McCain didnt need to seek your approval. How destructive that was to his life. /Sarc"The first gun that was fired at Fort Sumter sounded the death-knell of slavery. They who fired it were the greatest practical abolitionists this nation has produced." ~BG D. UllmanComment

I lost all respect for McCain in the last several years, It is respectful that he was a veteran but that is not a free ride forever and turning his back on the republicans caused me to dislike him very much indeed. I am glad he is gone and really don't care how.Comment

I've never seen where McCain ever gave in to the NV. He was given an offer and he rejected it. So,no, not yer average Genghis Khan. This has to do with John McCains death and not posters here.Last edited by dryheat; 08-25-2018, 10:22.If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.Comment

I was well trained in for my Radar Intercept Officer duties but had no training at all in how to deal with 18 year old Airmen and 38 year old Chief Petty Officers.
Red, thank you for your service. Based on the above sentence I copied, we in the Air Force called that situation: On the Job Training. Depending upon the men you supervise can make the job easy or difficult. In either case, you have to figure it out and make the "team" work.
I have to agree with you that not all served the Nation, they served to advance their career what ever it was to be. Being an officer and serving looks good on a resume.Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.
