Our newly elected Conservative Government in the Province of Ontario has just issued an order to all publicly funded colleges and universities that they must develop a policy on free speech for staff, students and guests by Jan 1. The Province has set some minimum expectations for the policy and its enforcement and is using the University of Chicago Statement on Principles of Free Expression as a starting point. Further, they must issue an annual report on the initiative.
This is clearly a response to the lefties in the universities who have stopped anyone who is not a politically correct socialist from speaking, either in the classroom or at public meetings. It also follows from an incident a few months ago where a teaching assistant got reamed out and threatened by her professor and a member of the human resources section for showing a TV interview with a professor who strongly opposes the forced use of phony pronouns such as zu and zee, etc. Unfortunately for her professor, the teaching assistant recorded the interview and turned it over to the newsmedia. The crap hit the fan and the university was forced to publicly apologize.
All in all, a great move and I would love to be a fly on the wall in the offices of some of the universities when this is discussed. The language would certainly not be politically correct.
