Plot would be easy to map out ... heir of naval tradition ... perhaps a bit of trouble fitting in, etc. ... less than stellar record w/ crashes, etc., but then comes Vietnam ... capture and redemption via the purgatory of the Hanoi Hilton as he finds himself, survives, emerges and begins the slow transition to a new way of life serving not in uniform but in a suit, not as a pilot but a politician. Read this (EVERYBODY read this!), & tell me how likely you think it will be for these facts to be included in any cinematic glorification that's made. Far as I can tell, this research does not appear to be the work of any crazy right-wing website, but a sober, careful, & rather long, examination of all the facts concerning the USS Forrestal disaster.

If anyone has any doubts about McCain the red flags after his death should be enough. Look at who glorified him. Look at who was denied and spoken badly about. There's a damn good reason for all of this and it wasn't because he was a Veteran or a good person. I'll bet most of McCain's voters feel very betrayed and like fools. So long ago, so much cover up by the military and so much protection over the son of an Admiral I think McCain could have made up anything he wanted and it would have flown. Remember, his time served was for career advancement not admitting mistakes, errors, arrogance or being incompetent for the position he was placed in. All of this is total BS. A short circuit shorted on a F-4 Phantom caused a 4" Zuni rocket to ignite. It flew across the flight deck and impacted a A-4 Skyraider starting the fire. John McCain had zero, nada, no hand in it. The ship immediately went to General Quarters and all the pilots and NFO's that could, dismounted their planes flocked to their GQ post. Pilots and NFO's General Quarters post is in their Ready Room. Pilots and flight crews were not trained to fight fires. The deck crews were and for the most part they all hauled ass to their GQ posts.

How did John McCain leave the ship? His only option to do so would be to jump in the ocean and swim a 100 miles. I was personal friends with and flew 40+ times in the back seat of a F-4 with a pilot that was aboard the Forestal that day. The flight deck film we saw back in the day clearly shows the Zuni rocket was the culprit. At the time the only question was why did the Zuni fire. One possible cause would be heat from an auxiliary power cart's exhaust. The Accident board determined it was caused by a short circuit.

Why do we need to make up crap to denigrate John McCain? There is plenty of real proof what a jackass he was, both in the Navy and the political world.

Did you bother to read the investigative report? The Zuni rocket isn't the issue--it was what caused a bomb to drop off McCain's plane & explode. McCain claimed the rocket also hit HIS jet, causing the bomb to release, but that wasn't supported by the Navy film. "Pilot error" was the conclusion of this report. And what motive do you think the reporter had for "making up" the story of McCain in Saigon?
