Nonsense -- they were defending the Mexican Constitution of 1824 and their rights under that Constitution. They no more committed treason than George Washington did.

Yep the defenders of the Alamo were killed in battle and those that survived were executed. The men that surrendered at Goliad were killed by orders of the President of Mexico, Santa Anna. Santa Anna thought this would terrorize the people of Texas and stop the rebellion. He thought like he was bullying Mexican peasants but these men were not peasants as he found out at the Battle of San Jacinto where the men of the Texas Army slaughtered over 650 of Santa Anna's army while yelling Remember the Alamo and Goliad. So while a few misguided members of the education board want to take out the word heroic from the books you can rest easy that its not going to happen. The Alamo is sacred ground in Texas.

What it is, is history. Nobody alive today can change it.

Nobody alive today can change what happened in the past, but changing what people BELIEVE about the past is not only possible, it's fairly easy to accomplish if the public school system begins a program of indoctrination at an early age--that's exactly what this school board was hoping to get away with. That board may be thwarted in this case, but indoctrination into other liberal beliefs & values is an intrinsic part of the public school curriculum in every part of the country--such as school text books that minimize the deeds of the Founding Fathers in order to glorify such liberal icons as the "King" of demagogues.

So what are you saying... that the Texas Revolution was illegitimate and Texas should still be part of Mexico. You could make the same case the American Revolution was illegitimate and and the United States should still be part of the British Empire. What it is, is history. Nobody alive today can change it. You could completely destroy the Alamo and it wouldn't change history one bit. ISIS blew up the Buddhist Statues of Bamiyan in Afghanistan but they didn't change history. I also doubt the idea of executing prisoners taken in battle was "universally understood," at the time. I don't recall it happening in the American Revolution, the Napoleonic wars (Waterloo), the war of 1812, or the Civil War in the U.S. And yes, any battle fought against overwhelming odds can be looked upon as heroic. That goes all the way back to the Trojan Wars.
