The only men I know who I have known who weren't taken to the cleaners in a divorce settlement were those who:
          1. Had nothing-"didn't have two nickels to rub together."
          2. Had their assets protected-in their family's name, e.g.
A lawyer told me one his clients, wife filed for divorce, threw him out of the house. He went down to the bank, cashed the check for the home equity loan, uses that to pay the child support. Hasn't seen his kids in six years.

True not only of my own divorce, but of every other one of which I have personal knowledge. We didn't have much, but my wife got it all, & good riddance. Fortunately, no brats to complicate the situation, THANK YOU JESUS!

When I was about sixteen and horny I looked at the numbers. I decided marriage was a bad idea. Miraculously, I never got a woman pregnant. I will never ask for another thing.
Togor, you must cease and desist immediately or you will be hearing from my lawyer

I hear ya dryheat but someone has to bear the news that the so-called Social Conservatives are in reality just Constitutional Radicals. Like every other interest group they pick & choose which parts of the document they embrace and which they ignore. I at least acknowledge that the same document that makes life hard for illegals caught at the border also gives women more personal freedom than some would like.

                    Congratulations!

Nine pages of differing opinions and no one has stooped to labeling/name calling. It has been an interesting read and I didn't shake my head in disgust with, "Here we go again..." only to skip all the rest.
I must say I agree with a lot of which has been said. Not all of it and certainly not from a single angle. Here is my take and it has already been mentioned by others even though the thoughts were there before someone else wrote it:

The increase in unwed births seems to correlate to the divorce rate. A system which is unfair and punishing to one party or the other. Pre-nups aren't quite as popular as they once were. It costs money for the legal fees. Young people today tend to work for less wages and fewer benefits these days. The majority of youngsters think a $20 per hour job is good when most of us were getting that thirty years ago. A twenty dollar bill back then bought what a fifty does today.
Welfare as an institution...we all pretty much are in agreement there.
Abortion. This is where eyes roll. Ever notice the topic only comes up near election time? Great issue on the campaign trail but nothing will ever be settled. Always puts me in the middle. My morals dictate choosing life, yet by law I don't have the right to make that choice for someone else.
Fetus rights. Really? It has always been called an American Birthright until more recent times. There has to be a line between religion/morals and the law of the land. It's the law!

Well JB, it has more to do with some people not rising to the bait than anything else. The name-callers are still out there.

How about Human Rights? The unborn child is a living human being -- check the DNA.

Now if you say the government decides when you get the right to life, then you are also saying that the government can decide some people NEVER get the right to life. So Jews, Blacks, Catholics and so on can be killed without any due process if the government so decrees.

The pro-life people NEVER talk about that! In the days of the founders, pregnancy to a successful live birth was not a given. No one can dispute that. The only way that pro-lifers can pursue their cause is by making the mother to some degree invisible, which is inherently contrary to the Constitution as written. There is no "whadabout" that anyone can throw at this discussion that changes these immutable facts. Women, whether some old men like it or not, are entitled to considerable control over their bodies and destiny. You want one to bear your children or grandchildren? Make it worth her while to make that choice freely. Someone else's line in her belly? Then you have no say. Deal with it!
Why give rights to Jews, after all they are sub-human and don't deserve any better from the Master Race. One must be sure not to let them bred too much. Nazi thinking.
Why give rights to Niger's, after all they are sub-human and don't deserve any better from the White Race. After all a slave is a slave subject to the white race. Klan thinking.
