"The first gun that was fired at Fort Sumter sounded the death-knell of slavery. They who fired it were the greatest practical abolitionists this nation has produced." ~BG D. UllmanComment

I have from other sources on what he did and no, weed didn't contribute to his death. Stupidity contributed to his death, he was a danger to others so was allowed to walk point. I believe Vern has much experience on who walks point. As a LEO you don't let a rookie or a hotdog go in first, that is an easy way to get someone killed.
What is really sad is that I can't recall his name at all.

After the war, a leading Russian general and Eisenhower were discussing the problems involved in clearing a minefield. The Russian said it was simple. They just marched a division of infantry over it and after that they let the tanks move out. Later on Eisenhower said he felt sick after he heard this.Comment

That's why there are so many old, deaf, one-legged Russians.
Now younger, one-armed Russians were probably tank gunners -- the automatic loader tended to load the gunner's arm right along with the next round.Last edited by Vern Humphrey; 10-20-2018, 04:43.Comment
