Harvard professor of astrophysics is a nutcase ...

He figures the radio signals received from one and a half
billion light years away were sent by aliens. I'm not sure
how fast radio signals go, but they're a hell of a lot slower
than light speed. Does he think those aliens are still around ?
Well, let's go see - they're just next door so it shouldn't take
long, let's fire up the rocket.

It beats me why we waste valuable dollars on this kind of nonsense.
Those huge dishes used for capturing the Orion nebular top ten hits
or Andromeda soap operas must have cost multiple billions. Why ? Who says
Aliens are going to be friendly ? If they live on a planet that looks like Mars,
they'll really like this place, and that won't be good. FRBs are good though.

I wouldn't worry about it. If all they have is radio waves it means they probably haven't gone digital yet. I doubt they'll be showing up in a Uber ship any time soon.

And radio waves do travel at the speed of light, about 186,000 miles per second.

Oh, so it only took one and a half billion years to get here.
        That cut it down considerably

Yep. If we reply to their signal, we can expect their response in about 3 billion years.

I sure hope they've got something interesting to say.

Jokes aside, confirmation of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe would have profound ramifications for all religions. And how much human energy on this planet is expended towards religion? Hardly any at all, right?
