Biblical truth... and nothing else ... thats what you say

11 years ago the wife and I spent a year in Appalachia . Many of the country roads where we lived seemed to have more "churches" than homes and I often wondered who attended all these little parrishes .

Alvin was a neighbor in that he lived on the same mountain as us and as a hardcore Baptist often tried to get us to attend the next Revival at his church. Alvin had some interesting comments for a man so devout in his " Christian " faith and he wasn't alone in using them. He couldn't hide his glee when New Orleans got whacked by Hurricane Katrina for instance

" God just reached on down and gave a bunch a smackin that had a smackin coming " is what he was happy to proclaim. For all his devout belief Alvin had a lot of hate in his heart.... as did most that lived on that mountain just south of the Tenn. border .

Intense hatred for blacks was a given and I found that odd as I never saw a black living within 150 miles... the fact I was a Yankee was forgiven as I had some desired skills in the area at the time and as my Colombian wife looked "white" she was OK too....otherwise.... ?

Point of all this Sam is the Baptist Church ... in my eye.. offers more than "Biblical Truth" ....
... it offers hatred even though that is "technically" against the word of God.

You and I have had a go around about my not being able to purchase a six pack after a hurricane and you accused me of being an alcoholic here on a public forum that you now defend the use of wine. And you accused me of being alcoholic because you hate me for having an opposing viewpoint.....

.... how very "Baptist " of you

Biblical truth.... and nothing else ..... "Dos Caras tienne usted"

a Southern Baptist is friends with everyone,
speak to the neighbors at the grocery store
speak to folks at the gas station
speak to folks out in the yard, at the barber shop, etc etc,

however, they know no one in the liquor store, as in speak to no one,

BTW, I was raised Southern Baptist,

How many Southern Baptists do you take fishing?

At least 2. If you take only 1, he'll drink all your beer.

And then this one: why do Methodists have sex standing up? So people won't think they're dancing.

Pebbles, an alcoholic NEEDS ethanol and gets ANGRY when it cannot be obtained, your statement fit that profile. READ MY POST, I am against overindulgence not ethanol. For an ALCOHOLIC, one drink is too many and 10,000 is not enough! In my over 20 years of treating chemically dependent clients YOUR STATEMENT fit what I have seen and heard to a T! Pebbles you are consumed with anger from your family of origin issues, you need help!

There are people who cannot understand that it is not the URGE that is wrong, it is indulgence in that urge that is the wrong.

                      Depends on the "hankering" type.

If someone makes anti-Southern Baptist or Methodist jokes, does that mean they are a "phobe" ? Should those phobias be added to the PC Canon ?
The people who object to that sign need some education in the First Amendment.

I always take the position that sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.

Hell will freeze before he gives you a straight answer so you might as well drop it. But your point is made. And since you lived with the hill folk, you know only too well their insular ways and that peculiar brand of faith, which exists primarily it seems to separate the world into a righteous US and an unrighteous THEM. There is nothing you can say to Boggs that will persuade him that he is not more righteous than you. Best to not even try, and going forward, to ignore the bait.
