"Persons of color" is still acceptable.
During the uproar of the 1960s there was a lot of wrangling over how "black" was defined, a lot of comparing of pigmentation, etc. "Degrees of Negritude." One of the reasons why the message of the Black Muslims didn't gain much of an audience is because their two top spokesmen-Elijah Muhammad and then Louis Farrakhan-were considered "too white."

I know that--it's constantly on the tongues of white Dem Prez candidates; but what I can't figure out is why "persons of color" is good, but "colored persons" is BAD!

when ever someone says that I usually ask what color
and then I get that look,

and I remind them what difference does color make,,,,,

When we got a BOLO if a person was non-white this was part of the description, same for red hair or any other marks.

one company I worked for had mystery shops,

part of the descriptor for the associate that was on the shop was race,

just so happens that the area I was in was very mixed, ethnic wise, (country/surburbs area,)

mystery shopper comes thru, White Male, 40's etc etc in Produce, White Female, 30's in Deli, Black Female, 60's in Seafood, etc etc

all good except the Female in the Seafood is not Black, she is Native American,, 100% pure according to her husband,

he let the first time go, since I told him I would have it corrected, (and I did, they changed that descriptor and resent the form)

2nd and 3rd time did not go so well, at least not for my ears, since I was told in no uncertain terms to get it fixed,,,,

the 4th and last time I let him talk to the folks in charge,, there was no 5th time

a Native American can get really mad when described as another race,, esp when they are pure,,,,

A lot of whites feel the same way. Of course with a Sicilian for example, who can say.

I didn't know you were foreign born, you sound American. I am a Native American, I was BORN here.

I would not have told her husband that, , it would not have gone well, and the tribe would not have shopped with me

When I went to college I marked Native American on my paperwork. Was called into the Dean's office to ask what tribe as more paperwork was needed. He was upset when he found out why I had marked this box and started to lecture me. I asked him to hold it right there and then picked up his dictionary. I read him the definition of "Native" and "American" and asked him to prove me wrong! This did not set well with him and he said I could not mark that box. I told him I would continue as long as that box was there and God continued to let it rain. The form was changed and from that point on he tried to get in my way, kinda like Togor does. The following year he transferred to another campus for some odd reason. I never did suffer fool's lightly regardless of who there thought they were.

Apparently he didn't either. You've been making up your own Boggsian meanings for common terms for some time now, it seems. I mean, you're bragging about being pointlessly obtuse with a college administrator. A leftover game from childhood, perhaps? Rebellious teenage years? Certainly a symptom of an isolated worldview.

Togor, you have to know how to spot Sam's BS made up stories.

They usually start with, "I..." and build from there. Don't take his bait, and he'll just get further frustrated.

Doesn't take long for the little voice to sound off, Togor what great things did you accomplish today? Jaywalked perhaps, tear the label off a do not remove or perhaps did 2 miles over the speed limit. Nothing so little, willing to get an abortion clinic into a black area to help to extinguish Black America!

Sam's favorite shirt says, "I'm with stupid", and the arrow points up to his head.

When I was young the proper term for blacks was "colored". Later they found that to be racist, singling them out to be different so THEY accepted the term blacks. Now, they don't like that term because it makes them appear to be different from white so they use a name that fits everyone like "African Americans". Go figure.

Allen, the word negro in English was derived from Spanish where it is spelled the same and pronounced nay_GROW while rolling the r. It simply means black. Hence the Crayola's marked negro, blanco, rojo, verde etc. Its a Spanish language set.
