Interesting article. I wouldn't doubt we did something like this. A few decades ago we would fly B52's from the CONUS, enter the Med and use Malta as a bomb target. After the run they would pop us and make a right hand turn towards Libya. The Libyans would turn on their radars and our EC 135's would record everything. So I can see this happening.
