I have long had a theory that when you read what someone has written, you're looking inside their heads -- and what a jumble that quote was!

You're right, of course. But look at what they write and you see the psychological reason for their need to do such a thing. It's like reading Mein Kampf or Das Kapital.

sounds to me using that logic that all should be OK with Trumps election, since he was the minority popular vote,,

The phrasing was unclear so to restate, the majority should have an opportunity to express itself, but not too far. This was (once) thought to be part of the genius of the American system, that a self-governing group of people could manage this as well as any monarch. My read of the forum is that many here find themselves in opposition to pretty much everything that carries popular opinion, and that their political outlook is entrenched around being a minority that has to cling to power by any means necessary or risk being swept away. Now maybe that overstates things for some (including present company) but for many I believe that hits the nail on the head, and I think: no wonder they're crabby.
