I'm probably the closest thing we have to a Nuclear Warfare expert in this esteemed group. First India and Pakistan do not have a missile or aircraft delivery system to hit the CONUS. So don't worry about that. We have sensors that will detect a launch of an IRMB or SLMB so we will know who did it. Now for the good stuff. I've looked at the wind patterns. The things to be concerned with are heat, blast, fallout and radiation. The targets will get destroyed by the heat and the blast effects. Then there is the fall out and radiation. If India launches against the Pakis they will have to deal with the post strike problems of fall out and radiation, if the Pakis strike the Indians the Indians will still have to deal with the radiation and fallout as that's the way the wind blows.

Its the same reality when the Iranians say they will nuke Israel, Everyone around Israel is going to have a fallout problem and radiation problem that will eventually cause Iran problems because that's the way the winds blow.

I'm a prefix 5, too. In THEORY we can detect launches early. But that still gives us a VERY narrow window to decide what we're going to do. A nuclear attack by ANYONE against ANYONE else is highly likely to precipitate a general war.

Many years ago I read an interview article written about 1929. An English newspaper sent a reporter to ask several German politicians how did the Great War start? Many stated that they had no idea how things got out of control so quickly...this can happen again. Had a teacher who admonished to "Engage brain before mouth!"

for those that are interested in the wind, and which direction it blows

Vern they are IRBM's they don't have the legs in range. I remember watching SCUD warnings during the first Gulf War. Besides we aren't going to launch against Russia or China unless we see theirs coming at us. I'm more concerned with one of them loosing a bomb, but that's another story.

Makes you wonder how many missile silo's there are in various countries, who they belong to and who they are aimed at.

It doesn't matter -- when the nukes start popping, how do we KNOW the Russians or Chinese aren't using them for cover to attack us? Remember, communications and surveillance systems will be disrupted, and the sources we rely on now will be down.
