    Open Carry

Opinion piece on Dimitry Andreychenko, the man who was arrested while conducting an open carry experiment in a Missouri Walmart. I am concerned that the younger generation in general cares a lot more about their rights than their responsibilities.

glad they care about their rights, that is a good thing

decently written article, that brings up some valid points,

we had a guy here in RVA that would hang out on a street corner, in a very liberal section of town, with a shotgun or AR, (open carry is legal in VA)
he got a lot of good and bad publicity, but was also much more calm, (for lack of a better term) and about education, not confrontation,

and here in Va, the police in the Tidewater area have been known to snatch you up and give you a beatdown for open carry,,, (it's happened)

There is the right way and the wrong way, his way was very wrong and by doing so it makes it hard on the rest of us.

Then we need to change our police officers.

As the article observes, an open carrier may be the first target, long before police are on the scene. The bad guy usually shoots first on the logic that until someone starts shooting there is no bad guy. As for cops arriving on a scene and wondering who to engage, that's going to be a problem no matter what, as actual LEOs here at the forum have stated.

One thing I was taught was that a heeled person was to be disarmed until that person is on our side. I have valued my hide and take pains to keep it from getting ventilated. Remember what Wild Bill did to his deputy and I don't plan on being an accident.

Let me get this straight -- when a person is breaking NO law, you still deprive him of his rights because YOU are scared?

NO, that is not right. I get called to a situation and two guys are shooting @ each other how do I now who is what? I want to get the shooting stopped RIGHT NOW and then sort out who is what. The good guy gets to leave with his gun unless I am told otherwise, not my call. The bad guy goes to jail and let the lawyers/judge sort it out. In short I wanted to GO HOME THAT NIGHT and I did.

In any gun situation you want to avoid getting shot, pain hurts plain and simple. Gunfights can happen real quick and end just as suddenly. Bullet proof vests are good, bullet proof thinking is better. I no longer carry a gun professionally but I still carry. I still do situational awareness the minute I walk out my cabin door and use it until I return. There are many fools walking around upright that need to be planted on boot hill, it's just that I am not the one to put them there. Live and let live, stay out of the other person's way. They are usually in a hurry and I don't aim to get run over. Old men get that way by being lucky or smart, I think I am a little of both.
I beat the big C for now but the Grim Reaper and I have come close before. Like the guy said that If I had know that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself! I believe in God, get to Meetings every Sunday to listen to the Preacher and be among other like minded folks. On the wall in my gun room is the Cowboy's Ten Commandments that I try and live by everyday. Read the Good Book everyday and I try to be a good companion to folks that I meet.

Remind me of the question, my mind is a little foggy in exactly what you want.

Pull up blocking yourself as much as possible exiting your vehicle. We had only one per car so blocking was with the engine using the felony stop. Usually it would take some time to get from one end of the county to the other. It helped if a village was close by and someone was out patrolling the village. I carried an M1 laying in the passenger seat and never had to fire it. Hope this answers your question.
