Votes are Where You Find Them

This week the President of India was in Houston for a state visit, so was Donald Trump. The two of them walked hand in hand into the event (very Indian) at which the two heads of state spoke to a very enthusiastic crowd.

On the way back from a fishing trip today I stopped in at a little mom and pop convenience store run by an Indian couple. I asked if they had been at the event and the guy just lit up and answered enthusiastically in the affirmative. Then he said that 240,000 Indians live in the eastern half of Texas and 60,000 attended the event, that's 25% folks. The guy told me that the vast majority of the Indian families sent at least one person as a representative.

We were in the Huge Vietnamese/Chinese area of Houston on the southwest side and we saw a big Republican party booth on the site.

A lot of minority or immigrant groups are actually a naturally conservative block. They own small to mid size businesses, are generally culturally conservative and family oriented. It really isn't even necessary to win a majority of these groups in every election. All the Repubs have to be in competitive. The Hispanics in Texas usually vote about 40% republican and that has been enough for the "Rs" to hold every statewide office in a majority minority state for 25 years. That happens because Republican candidates campaign hard in Latino areas. It doesn't hurt that folks like Greg Abbott, George W. Bush and Rick Perry speak Spanish and have ties, often family ties to that community. As more people from leftie states move into Texas it would be a good idea to continue that outreach.

Art, living in a diverse state as I do. You totally understand and appreciate the importance of outreach.

    Bravo on a excellent post.

The Democrats want to ban all fences around cemeterys. Their reasoning is that it impedes voters from getting out to vote.

I was curious to see how "the base" would react to Art's thoughtful posts. About what I expected. Imagine being reincarnated as an Allen.

My observations on Indian culture, and a lot of Hispanic culture, is they are fairly conservative. Strong family values, work ethic, belief in education and they do not look to government to solve their problems-or provide .

                  They're a lot like grass-roots Republicans -- they don't trust government.

Neither did our forefathers and that's why we have the 2nd amendment.

Gosh, Art. I thought you were talkin' 'bout footlockers, lost mailbags, election judge's car trunks. Yer talking about voters. People who vote. We'll see how much pull they have next year,

Odd that the democrats are the only ones against this amendment and furiously angry against it in every way. Shouldn't this tell people something? Even a 16 year old brainwashed girl that believes in global warming should smell a rat.

Allen, who was a wrench in an oil refinery, should check out his former industry's position on the role of petroleum in climate change. Hint: he's being Allen-y again.
