Not only von Braun but there were many others in Germany who the US Government wanted that were working on various other projects in Germany.

Nothing new! Right after WWII the US forgave many German's for crimes they committed if they had a talent or skill or knowledge the US could use or needed or was politically motivated to do so. Some responsible for many more deaths then one.

In many areas of science and technology Germany was more advanced and that knowledge was a benefit to the US, But some of the crimes committed could never be justified. How ever Braun''s knowledge and involvement in the Creation of the A Bombs ultimately saved thousands of US lives.

Ray does Werner von Braun mean we can't police our own forces? I know of no good reason for CinC injecting himself down the chain of command on this one, and can think of multiple bad reasons.

Also I can't see Braun and the others escaping punishment for war crimes if it was not approved by the highest authority, ie the president.
