My wife graduated from Little Rock's Central High in June of 1963. The black students that graduated with her were the ones escorted by the 101'st Airborne troops.

Nationalizing the National Guard was a rightful decision but invading Little Rock was over the top. I have no doubt that when Nationalized, the Arkansas National Guard would have followed the CIC's orders.

Art, It was the 101st not the 82nd. By the way, I'd bet that you can't find pics of M-1 Garand butt stocks being used to bust teeth and faces of law abiding Americans that happened to live across the street from Central High.

I knew some of them later. When they found that one of the 101st Airborne Divisions EEI (Essential Elements of Information) was "Determine the loyalty of the Arkansas National Guard," they were highly insulted. Of COURSE the Guard would obey the President.
