Funny thing through. For three years the White House was full holes leaking out information. Now that the ones who didn't like the Lump have been canned the leaks seem to have been fixed. Oh my the press won't have anymore leakers around. Just what will they have to do now? Invent more fake news?

Now remember if the Lump gets reelected that the number of conservative judges will increase and there should be a good chance of another one on the Supreme Court if the Republicans still control the Senate. Both sides are fighting over the same two issues. Abortion and Gun control. One side wants more of both and the other wants none of both.

Well this happens in the civilian world all of the time at least in my profession. A new boss brings in his own people to run things. He shouldn't have kept anyone hired by the last administration. Many of these people get their jobs because of who they know in the first place and are beholding to them.

        absolutely,

when I was in the grocery biz,, new DM or Divisional guy, and the old guys groupies and favorites moved , quit, got fired,
new guy would bring folks in to replace them that were his favorites he was promoting,

wash rinse repeat, for each one,

frustrating as a Store Manager,, since what you did today, may not have garnered you accolades yesterday or tomorrow

Have an alternative in mind? You want to be on the local school board that explains to the parents of the lower-testing kids that they're getting a different plan? Hint: it isn't the schools, it's the parents with lousy standards at home, or no home life at all to speak of.. Don't know if parents in the old days liked being told their kid was below average, but for sure these days with parents on social media it's a fire storm waiting to ignite. Running a public school system has become an ongoing exercise in damage control.

Probably some of that, but I think it all started with affirmative action. Lower the expectations so everyone can qualify in school and for jobs.. A worthy cause but ended up dumbing down America overall a bit by holding back smarter students from learning to their potential...

Don't follow the logic. As for AA, it's one thing to make sure that qualified applicants aren't excluded, but another to set quotas and adjust the bar to meet them. In my opinion, one of those is positive, the other not. I know some teachers, and family resources seems to be a huge driver in school success. Poor kids in rough setups, urban or rural, are at a comparative disadvantage to suburban kids from families that invest a lot of resources in their kids, from a stable home life, decent food, well defined expectations, etc. Not talking iPhones and Xboxes here.

Don't know about you and if you had any experience with AA. but I worked with it while a Law Enforcement adm. and when testing for a position, were we would normally have moved on just the top ten test scorers to the next stage, but because of AA, we were forced to reach down past those top 10 scorers, if it did not include a minority, and add one minority to it and include them in the next step no matter what their score had been as long as it was above the 70 passing score. Normally the top 10 candidates scored in the upper 90's.... .

Yeah quotas are tough. People argue that the game is rigged and so quotas are necessary. I agree sometimes the game is rigged and I disagree with that happening, but outright quotas are too blunt an instrument. Their proponents say it's the only sure fire way to meet the social goal, but as you point out there are adverse consequences.

It's an odd question: "did you go into law to defend entrenched interests?" One would expect a unanimous "no", and yet, many people end up in that exact position. The US is already showing signs of falling behind other nations in important metrics of quality of life, even as (on average) we're quite wealthy. WW2 was won in many places, including the industrial heartland spanning the Great Lakes and the great river valley regions. 30 years, on, just one generation, people had taken to calling that great industrial region "the rust belt". The point is, things change, and a politics that rewards entrenchment only seems to make the pain worse in the long run.
                    interesting,

was always told the rust belt (which ran up into new england) was referring to cars ,

as in salt on the road etc etc

LOL, there's that too! But it refers also to the region of rusting factory sites past their prime. That's how we always understood it. Wouldn't mind seeing the phrase retired but what can you do?

guess the phrase was re-purposed, since I heard that long ago when a good portion of those plants were still running

He was accused of using his power as President to hurt people that didn't like him, Firring people from their Job isn't as straightforward as some may think, He grows wiser each day.
