Togor Quote..If people aren't familiar with medical manufacturing, it takes awhile to come up to speed. The specifics matter.
Remember in WWII. other manufactures started to make things other companies made, think MI carbine.
The gun companies that were already making them sent people over to help the new companies make them.
Now that certainly would be a heck of a lot more complicated then making a pill or a piece of equipment. The sky is not falling as much as you think....A vitamin pill mfg could switch over to the pills quickly I would imagine, ..Last edited by rayg; 03-03-2020, 02:50.Comment

Ray only you are saying the sky is falling, or not.
On the order of a 6 month disturbance in manufacturing, there isn't a huge incentive for radical realignments in supplier relationships, on the reasoning that it's less work to get an existing supplier back on their feet than to bring a new one on line. Same for just adding additional lines to respond to demand increase.
If you want to get into government's role, I don't think the Trump Administration brings anything like the sense of organization and competence that one saw in those New Deal economists who helped organize the War Production Boards. Not a lot of Henry Kaisers around either to lend a hand.Last edited by togor; 03-03-2020, 02:43.Comment

Ray..Yes you are right about that, but how long would it take for a firm manufacturing other type of pills to stitch over. I also believe that the goverment has the ability and facilities to mfg them also.

Ray..Me! ...all you been saying is negative, sky falling things, like it will take time to make them, or need blue prints, and how hard it would be to make the pills and equip quickly...I'm not saying the sky is falling things you have been....LolLast edited by rayg; 03-03-2020, 11:08.Comment

Ray substitution may happen depending on the nature of the shortage and where there may be excess capacity. But in pills, quality is important, otherwise one could be doing more harm than good. And as a rule, quality takes data, and data takes time.Comment

Togor you are taking this too far. If the companies that would already be making the pills couldn't meet the quota needed, then other companies using the same data used by the companies already making the pills can then manufacture them. I don't see a problem. ..Comment

Neither you or Ray seem to be keeping up.
Somewhere along the line the subject of drug shortages due to Coronavirus came up. This is brushed off on the belief that's it's simple to solve.
My reply is that it's not simple to solve. Pharma lines take a long time to set up, precisely because purity is required by the FDA.
I stand by that general position, which says nothing about any specific case. Sort of: quick, good quality, cheap--pick any two.
Nothing here to argue about, IMO.Comment

All of which will be expedited quickly and over come in a short time during the emergency to produce the pills..Neither you or Ray seem to be keeping up.

Throw in enough money and see how fast a line can be converted, FDA be damned! In an "emergency" wavers can and possibly be given with the understanding taking a pill has risks. If a person is dying of the virus I can see one taking it as a chance of survival. My chemo had known risks with the potential of failure, what did I have to lose by doing them? Having been in that position I would gladly sign the waver and roll the dice...I did.
