I am amazed that anyone, knowing her track record and Donald Trump's record, would think she would do better.Comment

Now one understands those who are against the Republic's President...unable to comprehend congruent thoughts to any degree. To put it bluntly, only one of two active brain cells in use. Too much cannabis/ethanol ingestion it appears.

The playbook says there is some stuff you won't know and you'll have to react to it. It doesn't say that you go into the battle with your troops disorganized.
Also, please have a go at my question....
Open up the country at Easter and let the disease run it's course? No opinion? I doubt that. Not saying it's an easy one.Comment

[QUOTE=rayg;578155]Even peons can have opinions.
Look, it's kind of empowering to get out in front of Trump and state a position on something without knowing which way he'll go. Give it a try!
We've already established this is not an easy one with a clear-cut answer.
Let's phrase it differently.....would you like to see FL fill up with vacationers enjoying cheap flights and hotels this spring? Bumping elbows with them as you go about your business?Last edited by togor; 03-27-2020, 08:49.Comment

[QUOTE=rayg;578155]Pick any date you like. If the country is opened up at that date the disease will run its course. All we're doing now is flattening the curve, not actually preventing anyone from getting the disease.Comment

The idea is to play for time, in the hope that good things come from that including:
1) lower peak numbers
2) advancements in treatments to reduce severity
3) discovery of an efficacious vaccineLast edited by togor; 03-27-2020, 08:55.Comment

Easter was a date pulled from the sky as a line in the sand to make people feel a little better about things. As it turns out Easter is probably not going to be doable. The date was based upon the weather warming up and claims made by others that cures were in the making.
What is the best answer to give people confidence? "We've all going to die from this", "by March 11 2028 we should start seeing some relief"?Comment

So hard to say what the far end looks like, but this one is turning out to be a huge disturbance.
And the thing is, nature isn't short on germs we haven't seen. So IMO we ought to be learning for the next time too. If we mothball equipment, so what.Comment

One of the things not fully appreciated by the public is that when the Federal Government first declared an emergency it amounted to wrapping the nascent testing capability in this country in red tape that is only now loosening up. The Government wasn't ready. And excuses like "no one could have seen this coming" are CYA bunk.

The discovery of an efficacious vaccine is most likely the easy part. The tough part and time consuming parts are doing all the stages of required clinical trials to also prove safety as well as efficacy and the development of enough manufacturing capacity to produce 300 million plus doses for all Americans.
We will, of course, be expected to produce enough free vaccine for the rest of the world.Comment
