Coupling health insurance with work has got to change, not merely because so many have been forcibly deprived of their jobs, but because it's a bad idea to start with. The full cost of it is not born by the employees & owners, it's passed on to consumers, so indirectly, it's publically financed. I lived most of my life without health insurance because most of that time I was self-employed, like millions of others. What a relief to make it to Medicare, with all its shortcomings! About ONE thing, the Dems are right: national health care of some kind is essential, even though it will be inferior, like Medicare, to the best private coverage.

But I say again, "private coverage" like Blue Cross is really paid for by everyone who buys the products of the companies who provide it; for ex, the cost tacked on to every new car to pay for UAW's gold-plated coverage is over $1000. Self-employed folks have to cover that cost when they probably have no coverage themselves!
