I watched it and yes he has been arrested and charged for it. Why do you want to keep it going? Did you read my link to the stats of all the cops killed and now you can add two more..Or did you ignore it..
Sorry it just pisses me off that people knock the police when every day when they leave for work to protect the public, they don't know if they will return...This is every work day. As far a bad apples in the Police..what profession doesn't have them. The phychological testing process in police entry tries to eliminate the bad apples, some slip by..By the way what kind of phychological testing is done for your profession?

Sorry Lyman, couldn't ignore the question...

Ray thank you for acknowledging the circumstances of the George Floyd case. No one expects perfection out of police but with power there must be accountability.

BTW I have a relative in the Twin Cities who has a buddy who lives just down the street from Derek Chauvin. Nice suburban neighborhood, east of St. Paul. Funny how so many city cops don't live in neighborhoods close to where they work. "Can you blame them?" Maybe not, but it may not make for better policing.

"By the way what kind of phychological testing is done for your profession?"

I would like to respond to this because I am a clinical psychologist and performed this sort of service for about 20 police departments. This was some years ago but I doubt if much has changed in the interval.

An associate and I would obtain contracts from police department to evaluate candidates who aspired to be law enforcement officers. Our evaluation consisted of the following services. Objective tests of intelligence, proficiency in reading and mathematics, a battery of personality tests including the MMPI, and lastly a personal interview.

The easiest part of the evaluation was measuring IQ's and academic achievement levels. Obviously the most difficult area was assessment of personality. Basically, the most you can do in this area is to eliminate candidates with major mental health issues.
What is so far impossible to determine is future behavior, either on the job or in other settings.

In the overall future dangerous behavior cannot be predicted. There are numerous studies which confirm this. All of the Nazi war criminals at Nuremberg were given the Rorschach test. None showed any great propensity for violence. Basically they were people of mediocre ability who were similar to middle management personnel in any large company.

I even went through the Rorschach that the Israelis had given to Adolph Eichmann, one of the greatest monsters in all history. There was nothing in it that would indicate he was capable of any kind of violent behavior. At this point I would like to add that the Rorschach, popularly known as the ink blot test, is the most valid and widely researched personality measure in the world. To give just one example, this test is used to select the Secret Service agents who will protect the President.

This post is already far longer than I ever meant to be, but I just wanted to supply some data in this area.

Last thing. For whatever this is worth I myself was once the victim of an assault by an out of control sadistic police officer.

Let me give a parallel scenario -- during Desert Storm, an American Apache helicopter fired on American M2 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, and some Americans were killed them was a battalion commander. The division had a regulation prohibiting battalion commanders from personally engaging the enemy -- and he paid a price for it.

The reasoning is, battalion commanders have junior officers and warrant officers to be the trigger puller. The battalion commander is there to supervise and command. When observed, that system works well and prevents screw ups.

Here we had four cops on one suspect. The senior cop should have taken command and NOT got into it with the suspect. Let the three other cops handle him while the senior cop supervises and keeps things in line. This was an organizational failure as much as anything else.

There are many questions that will be answered in subsequent investigation. What arrest procedures are approved for arrest use and why. Cops 201 package, what are the complaints and how were they handled. What non lethal devices were used and if not, why? What does the body cams give in the arrest, what does the autopsy show? Did Floyd have any type of drugs in his system that contributed to his demise, general health and so on. Vern is right, this was a fubar arrest from the start.
