American influence didn't hurt, but that's not what made English the most widely spoken & widely taught "second language" in the world.

The Germans would not have conquered England -- but without the Americans, they'd be speaking Russian in Paris.

But if they had, the Germans would not only have had their own Battle wagons,
they would have had the Royal Navy, the French and Italian Battleships as well. Just imagine
that lot lined up on the East Coast and the Japanese Navy lined up on the West Coast.

Considering English is a Germanic Language, we can give credit to tribes that traded with the Romans and incorporated Latin and Greek vocabulary.

The Nazis tried and failed to invade England -- their first move was to attempt to gain air supremacy, and they lost the Battle of Britain. Without air supremacy, they couldn't cross the Channel in the teeth of the British Navy.
