No, just tearing a thing down is problematic in many ways.

And the conversation over whether any monument ought to remain, whether it still makes sense or not to honor the thing in question, is one for the living, which never ends. If a subject is well chosen, then the answer doesn't change and the monument endures.

In his memoir of the Pacific War, which he penned in the 1980's, William Manchester toured some of the islands fought where battles were fought. I believe it was on Saipan where he found a monument, already dilapidated, to US forces who had fought there. There were also Japanese guns, still mysteriously kept well-oiled and ready for action. 40 years on I have no idea if things have changed or not. But if we're not bothered by the Japanese keeping this memory alive, it is only because there exists a firm and mutual understanding of who beat who.

That's the whole problem..Civilized and mature people respect the law and allow it and the courts to take it's course....not riot and protest before the process takes place...

But you see, they're righteous, so they can do what they want. Rioting and burning is better than waiting for a court decision. And hang the guilty without a trial.

What's "vague" about the history these statues represent? Pandering to BLM by the Dems who control these cities is why they're coming down.

I repeat my challenge to you:

If you have a case for keeping up a statue that also gives a nod to the legitimate grievances expressed about the Confederacy, then by all means bring it forth. Otherwise, maybe let the whole thing go.
Stop pointing to excesses by your opponents and come to the heart of the matter. Make the positive case, if you can, to a generation that isn't steeped in the aura of your heritage and doesn't understand what you mean when you use that word. Or think it means the right to kneel on a man's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. If you can't teach, then don't complain.

The profoundly ignorant, in other words. How DO you engage in any kind of rational discussion with the profoundly ignorant? No one can teach those who lack any desire to learn.

To whom then does the job fall to explain these statues to the next generation? Your opponents? You leave it to them? Well small wonder then these statues lose support.

The place for these anarchists to have learned about American history & the individuals who made the country great was in the public schools--it's too late now.

And where do you think it is headed? Ultimately, no matter what the WHO and the other people do, despite the forced measures enforced by Socialist Dictators that you adore, regardless of the country, the Pandemic of 2020 will end in exactly the same way previous pandemics have ended including the Irish Potato Famine and one in 1918... Mother Nature will be the one to make it go away.

No matter what you do Trump's actions won't matter either way. It will end at some time and all you are doing is lying, twisting, and making everything political.

You and your Socialist bullying friends are THRILLED that people are dying and you are all working overtime extend the virus so you can blame Trump.

I don't you have a shred of basic humanity left in your skewed and screwed world.

Red if a vaccine comes in 2021, and it works well, the question will be if so many really had to die in 2020. Trump is eager for there to be a vaccine, perhaps unable to work out this scenario in his own head. He's is an indifferent manager, say too people many people to count, who have worked in his White House and come away incredulous. BTW, I told you this would happen, that managerial incompetence would undo him. You can't keep creating new problems on top of existing ones without everything eventually going to hell.

religion has gone up in threads lately too,

meanwhile, everyone expects the President to enforce Law & Order in the cities,

yet not many want the local Gov, Mayor or City councils to do anything,

                              States Rights,,,,, remember?

drop the TDS for a second and look at who is causing the issues, who is NOT responding or is Standing Down, and where the money is going,,,,,

or continue to PissnMoan about Trump,

your choice, of course, for now,,,

but wait, if I choose to not follow the narrative, that makes me a target,,,,,,,,

TDS is a multi-edged sword. The base has it in their own way. To say they have a clear-eyed view of the man would be a lie.
