CH..good post and the problem with these all self important jerks, is that they are making everyone focus on these loser black people by making excuses for them, and not on the black people who are not involved in this crap and who are successful and productive in life...

So that's the same reason why the crime wave from Oregon to New York to New Orleans is happening?
NO, NO, No! That can't be because crime is shrinking all over the world because Obama and BLM wants it that way.
But all the aboves are lies. They have to be because togor says crime is down.
So say the stats. The surveys also say Americans have been gaslit into thinking crime is worse than it actually is.

RED you bring Trump into everything. In this case the satisfaction of going "tsk, tsk" at Chicago's endless problems trumps (verb, pun intended) any sense that the nation as a whole might do something to help. I know of what I speak here. I grew up in Milwaukee. There were field trips to the Museum of science and Industry (home of the U-505). Before we got on the bus, they gave us THE TALK. To mix a metaphor, when in Chicago, "you're not in Kansas anymore." I remember seeing high rise tenements from the bus window and going "holy sh*t". I remember bushwhacking across the boarded up south side with my family in a minivan in 2010, when the Great Recession was in full swing. Everyone knows the job is too big to tackle. Nothing to do but thank lucky stars if living elsewhere.Comment

Why "the nation as a whole," when the richest woman in the WORLD lives there? Oprah's boyfriend is even richer--he owns BET. Then there are the many multi-millionaire sports clowns who live there. Any gov't action would bring with it endless red tape, & much of the money that was allocated would be squandered in the idiotic ways that only the gov't is capable of. How about fabulously rich blacks (most of them like Oprah owing their wealth to whites) helping their own???Comment

Hey, here we go. Part way in this 1942 newsreel, after Veronica Lake shows women how to keep their hair out of machine tools, is a pitch for child care to help backstop those women ordnance workers. We could do something like this for Chicago, to break the cycle of gang violence, putting the gangs out if business with a surge of child investment. Beat the gangs just as we beat the Axis. What's not to love?

Chicago vies with NYC with having laws that abrogate 2A rights-the second Mayor Daley wouldn't even let retired cops carry. During the crime wave of the 1970s in 1972 something 20% of all armed robberies nationwide occurred in NYC. There was the Knapp Commission which found widespread corruption in the NYPD, what was the politicians answer-blame lax gun laws in other states. Anyone remember all the hullabaloo over the "Saturday Night Special".
I recall seeing a Sunday afternoon analysis in The New York Times in the Fall of 1993 which acknowledged that a factor in the crime problem far greater than the easy access to firearms was the high rate of illegitimacy. Which is caused by too easily obtained welfare benefits provided by...the government.
I read an account of two Mob connected thugs who, when things got too hot for them in NYC, decided to head out west until things cooled down. When their funds became low they tried to pull a robbery in a store in a small Texas town, found the rules were different out there.Comment

Chicago's problems are the result of decades of corrupt, one party authoritarian government combined with liberal government programs-welfare, e.g. which have destroyed family structure, created a self perpetuating dependent class, and of course require a huge government bureaucracy to administer them.Comment

Never forget the political importance of the latter! "Social services" is a huge industry employing hundreds of thousands in federal, state, county, & municipal positions. ALL the benefits of Obamacare could have been provided merely by lowering eligibility requirements for a program already in existence: Medicare. But doing that would not have provided the opportunity to create of a brand new bureaucracy with thousands of high-paying executive positions, every one of them occupied by loyal Dems.Comment
