I love it when the base can't even puzzle through simple ideas, like why it's stupid to trash the FDA now, when you're going to need them later, credibility intact, to sell the Trump Vaccine, which is the best near-term hope for getting the economy open again. Well for all of the yakking, to bring it back to the topic, the FDA in a moment of sobriety did walk back its original unfounded claim about plasma. It's a small victory for scientific credibility, but also a trouble sign that they made the mistake in the first place, in an apparent knuckle-under moment to please Trump. Trump mentioned a vaccine in his speech last night as the way to put this thing in the rear view mirror. If it isn't safe, then not only will it not improve the situation with Covid, it will set vaccines in general back who knows how far. And remember, old farts with tired immune systems count on young people to take vaccines to keep the herd immunity up. Another example of how we are all connected, that if it becomes everyone-for-themselves, then the old and very young go quickly.

It turns out that the FDA plasma rollout was the rookie flight for a FDA spokesperson brought in from One America News. She's since been pulled from that position, but might yet draw a government paycheck some other way. So they found someone to throw under the bus, which is an important part in processing failure in Trump-world.

Her name is Emily Miller, and she fits the mold of perky blonde who looks good in sleeveless dresses and says things that keep her in front of the cameras. In a role where competence matters, she crashes and burns. Par for the course in this, the most incompetent, corrupt administration perhaps since Warren Harding (and at that a contest).
