That's all true -- the tariff was enacted to "protect" American manufacturers, by making foreign goods more expensive. In effect the southern states were subsidizing the northern states.

Vern, they just passed those costs on to the consumers.

Today, that is the current economic policy.

For Pete's sake, no matter who you wished could have won or why it happened or who was right or wrong...The CW War has been over for 160 yrs ago and is now long time ago history.. Time to move into the twenty first century! I respect your allegiance to the Southern cause but bringing it up always is getting old...

Tell that to the BLM rioters destroying (with impunity!) monuments to Southern courage & heroism, & to their defenders, like Togor, who say it's their right to do so. The Civil War has been over for 160 yrs ago, but this violence & hatred toward Southern history is flourishing TODAY. When THEY move into the twenty first century, & stop blaming all their problems on what's been over for 160 yrs, so will I.

CH never did I say it was their right. Actions have consequences, and from time to time, people's calculus changes, what actions they're willing to take, and what consequences they're willing to risk. It could be that you're just afraid of them and the idea that they've decided the status quo doesn't cut it anymore. FWIW that's a fear even older than the men in those monuments.

WHAT consequences, when cops in Dem-controlled cities are ordered not to interfere? How many of these vandals have been charged with the crime of destroying public property STILL revered by millions? ZERO is the answer.

What happens to ME if I knock down a monument I hate, like one of the hundreds of MLK statues all over the country? Think I'll get "police protection" while I'm doing it?
