You want me to doxx some teacher? Get real.
Okay, everyone wants their kid to graduate from kindergarden. By high school, it's clear some kids aren't going on to a 4-year college, hoping to find a trade maybe.
Talk to teachers they'll tell you a common theme is parents want their kids to get good grades, but if they don't it's the teacher's fault somehow. If you have teacher friends they'll surely confirm that.
Got any kids of your own? I have 3.Last edited by togor; 11-17-2020, 11:31.Comment

A lot depends on the district. Around here, semi-rural exurbia, you see a mix of high and low achievers. Would expect things are one way in the Lexington suburbs, but another in the Kentucky backcountry.
Anyhow, 39 combined parent-years of K-12 adventures, you meet a lot of teachers, and a lot of other parents of your kids classmates.Comment

you should get out more,
teachers I know are all 3, grade, high school, and college level,
all basically say the same, burb's have some issues but they are starting to realize that some folks need to go to trades vs everyone go to college, and that is supported by the college folks I know,
however no one wants to change the system too much so the college level pay and jobs don't go away,
not that any say the students are bad, or not educated, just some don't fit, (or have the college desire)
and with trades making more in a lot of cases than college grads, that makes sense,
high school/grad school eslewhere is region or demographic based,
one high school teacher I know, (gun guy, but does not chat about it at school, he has to pretend to be liberal) says the lockdown has been giving him better attendance results than normal classroom ,
I asked him if the parents were logging on and leaving the computer running,
and he said no, he has eyes on his class via the monitor,
know a few thru my past profession that were teachers in low income areas, and while they all had bright students in the classes, a good percentage were not, simply because the parents made no effort to push the kids, hood life is a thing, school is not apart of it,
so basically here in Diverse VA, we have a little of every thing, your utopia of wisc,, must suckComment

Wow,
With the generalizations.
Were I to write long posts, to explain everything, you wouldn't read, or understand,
But keep them short, and you read the wrong stuff into them, clearly by choice,
And if all else fails, personal attacks.
A wiser man might factor in the limitations of the medium, and in this particular case,
The breadth of individual experiences possible in the topic.

To bring it back around, there is a streak of anti-intellectalism that runs through politics these days, mostly but not exclusively on the one side (anti-vaxxers for example swing both ways). Scott Atlas is a good example of that kind of anti-expert, in a position he will soon vacate, only to find that his former colleagues think less of him for his disservice to the country. Anyways, kids pick up on their parents attitudes, and what kids have at home, they bring to school. Your teacher friends can confirm that much for you.Comment

here we go,
personal attacks, no read, etc etc,
your typical cries when someone debunks your theories, and in this case, based on a very limited cross section by your own admission,
the rest is babbling, (*not an insult , truth, read your own posts)Comment

Already done.
Lyman, you haven't debunked anything, unless you are a legend in your own mind. Remember, my day job is building stuff that objectively works, or it doesn't (it does, if I want to keep getting paid!). I don't get paid to sell stories to soak up disposable income. So a big difference there.
Added:
On the general subject of commentators who made it out and look back, here's Trae Crowder, from East Tennessee. An avowed liberal who makes his living doing stand-up, discussing BLM a few years back from an Appalachian perspective.
