Short answer is that their death rate is >5X higher than the other Nordic countries, and their economy has taken more or less the same hit, and they're clamping down because they're nowhere near herd immunity.

Swedes DO have a cultural bias towards conformity once a group decision has been reached, so it's quite possible that their impending lockdowns will prove effective, unlike in the USA, where a large segment of the population is determined to spread the disease, even as vaccines come closer. It's as if some people are terrified of the idea that there is power for good in collective action. Hmm....have I ever met anyone who might fit that description? Online, definitely.

I was going to suggest someone post some real numbers. Togor to the rescue. I probably could do it with some determined effort, but I'm way too lazy. But I wonder what the general mental state is? Are they freaking because the grandparents are dying? Are they going to vote the president out? Here's a very small sampling of the state of mind locally; My girl friend works at a Big Lumber ect. supply store. She said, a year ago the majority of folks at the counter were happy and joking with the occasional crab. Now she says, 3/4 of the customers are mean, crazy, snotty and there is the occasionally nice person. Maybe she's getting depressed. It's a tiny little observation. I don't doubt it though.

actually, I read an article published years ago that looked at the mass shooters history, and the parents too, and the majority were D's, and the same article was looking at drug usage (Xanax type) too,
