Nordic countries the only comparison? Britain? France? Germany?

The data is out there if you like. The intra-Nordic comparison is considered relevant because of similarity in climate and the fact that they share a common cultural background (less so with Finland but still long time neighbors), so as to bring the differences in policy out as clearly as possible. That result is inconvenient to some who advocate simply going for herd immunity, but the data speaks for itself.

"Herd immunity" is a stupid red herring, having NOTHING to do with this comparison of Sweden & Europe. WHO clamed Sweden had achieved herd immunity"? Certainly not the Swedes!

What speaks for itself (if the US media didn't suppress it!) is that, like I said, Sweden is no worse off, compared to this country & most of Europe, for SKIPPING the hysteria & draconian restrictions of freedom imposed here & in Europe.

Herd immunity sounds a little goofy(although I think there is a precedent for it). Like drinking yourself sober.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

The Swedish gambit was that by letting the young and healthy circulate, in the non-shut-down economy, they would get sick, at a rate that does not overtax their health care system, with the aim being not full herd immunity but some level such that a second wave would not hit them as hard as the countries that had opted for maximum suppression as a strategy.

It hasn't worked out. They have the excess deaths, the economic hit, but not a meaningful advantage on herd immunity. Imagine that, a contrarian strategy that hasn't paid off.

BTW, the Swedes never saw hysteria as a risk because they're not a hysterical people. If anyone has been hysterical about Covid-19 around here it is you. Not the disease, but organized efforts to fight it.

Also, I have a niece whose case of it was like a sinus infection. Gave it to her dad but not the rest of the family. 4 months on she cannot smell and everything tastes like gasoline (her words). Nerve damage in the taste/smell centers, regeneration possible but not guaranteed. Not everyone wins at Covid-19 Scratch-Offs.

You won't lay that red herring, herd immunity, down! THAT was never their plan. And they have NOT incurred "excess deaths" compared to the other major countries of Europe who subjected their pop to total mask-hysteria.

You're trying to cherry pick the data to prove a point that has emotional resonance for you. The Swedes themselves are rethinking the Swedish model, which ought to tell you something, but it won't. And if in a month every other free society in the northern hemisphere has lower covid rates than the USA, as the vaccine approaches, you will invent some twisted logic whereby that represents a triumph.

BTW, Cuomo, is actually behind the curve of even some republican states right now in locking things down, hoping to hold out. How does that fit your narrative? Oh wait it doesn't.

Maybe because he remembers LOOSING the upstate vote in the last Gov election? Or seeing my county & others go completely Red in the last election? Or noticing that NYC is becoming a ghost town?

Be careful -- if Cuomo reads this, he'll send you to a nursing home to die of Covid 19.
