All you need is a compelling reason.
How much will it COST to get minerals from an asteroid, let alone from a distant star?

If we have to get iron from extraterrestrial sources, it will cost a billion dollars a pound. We cannot realistically expect to mine the asteroids or other planets.

Helium-3 is the only known conceivable exception.

Someone will eventually go to the moon for some of that.

          depends really,

if we start trying to build here and there, off world , then it may be cheaper to snag an asteroid and mine it,

gotta think we are a long way off , re the mining, smelting, etc to make even the basic structures

This is how you communicate, so what is the issue?

The dollar store has helium balloons.
Strikes me as a waste of a scarce resource.

The weight of the equipment we would have to send up for mining and smelting would outweigh the construction materials we could send in their place.

Every bronze age tribe had a creation story. The vast majority did not make it into writing.

you are thinking of today's systems and equipment,, that may be improved to some degree in the future,

one day, there was a bright spark and a loud *poof*, (kinda like a popcorn fart)

and there was suddenly a togor,

                              it fizzled
