Is this the way of Democracy? they did the same in WI to prevent a vote

All of them actually left the state

    Like a bunch of juveniles,,

Texas Democrats stage dramatic walk out before midnight to block state GOP's new voting bill which Republicans call 'comprehensive and sensible': Gov. Abbott says he will call special session

Democrats in the Texas House of Representatives boycotted a legislative session late Sunday, blocking a vote on an election reform bill

Critics had said the bill would make it harder for blacks and Hispanics to vote

But Republicans said the measures were 'comprehensive and sensible'

With just over an hour before a midnight deadline to pass the measure, Democrats had walked out to deny the House a quorum for a vote

A vote on the measure was certain to pass in the Republican-dominated house

Supporters of the legislation said it is needed to bolster election security

Democrats and civil rights groups argue that such legislation disproportionately burdens or discourages voters of color, as well as the elderly and disabled

There were no substantial allegations of fraud in Texas in last year's election

“There were no substantial allegations of fraud in Texas in last year’s election.” So how come did the republicrats pass diabolical inhibitions of voting under the aegis of voting integrity?

Texas was ranked 50th in ease of voting *before* this legislation.

The question that neither Ray or anyone else here can answer is.... where's the line? At what point are the restrictions too onerous?

Nobody will answer that question because everyone knows what's really going on.

that's a very left leaning article,

the big question is , why not provide an ID to vote??

esp since most states give voters a voters registration card,,,,,,,,

Texas requires a ID to vote already. Texas has lots of restrictions. Why does it need more? Where's the line?

                *That's* the big question IMO

Not a big question as you say! Just common voter sense! Please explain what you find wrong with having to provide an ID to vote!

And that AG or any AG saying that quote you posted would be 100% correct. I need proof of who I am to get a ID to prove who I am to do lots of things vetoing is no different.

My understanding is most of the new Texas voting bill is to repeal emergency provisions enacted during the Pandemic. There will be little new in it.

This isn't the first time the Dems have left the state to deny the legislature a quorum. They did it last to try to prevent redistricting they didn't like. They eventually came back and the bill passed. They'll be back and the law will be passed too. Its a stunt.

Speaking of quorums. The Constitutionally mandated quorum (Article 1 Section 5) for the Senate of the United States is a majority which is 50 + 1 right now. The Senate operates generally on what is called "Unanimous Consent" in which the Senators stipulate the rules have been met whether they are or not. McConnel has vowed scorched earth trench warfare in the Senate if the Democrats vote to abolish the fuilibuster. There will no longer be an assumption of a quorum and one of the tools will be constant quorum calls. The Dems have 50 votes so the Republicans will have one Senator on the floor whose job will be noticing the absence of a quorum and demanding a roll call every time a Democrat leaves the floor for a potty break or to take a phone call. If a Dem has to leave for any personal reason they'll shut down the Senate completely until he/she gets back. The Republicans have the power to lock every single Democrat into their seat every second the Senate is in session to accomplish anything at all. And that's just the beginning.

Is that what the new Texas legislation is about? Needing an ID to vote? Because I thought they had that one already.

Are you asking to hear their side of the story or just looking for any reason to call them stupid? You use that word a lot, BTW.

Well there you go again saying something that is not true.....You said I used the word "stupid" a lot! Well I just spent time and checked my back posts for well over a half a year and unless I missed it! In all those months, this is the only time I used that word! So I'm afraid again, you are not telling the truth! Lol
