I live in Texas and support the bill. As a Texan I really don't care what outsiders think. As for voter fraud well yes it happened.
Is this the way of Democracy? they did the same in WI to prevent a vote

Texas lost the high ground when it's corrupt AG sued battleground states that he didn't like based on the election winner.

The Togor-Art discussions are so much more valuable than the Togor-Lyman-Ray debates; You said, I said, I didn't say, you didn't read ect. Reading Togor-Art I actually got a feel for both sides. My take: responsible people carry ID. But EVERYONE has an opinion. And some have an agenda. But if they want to vote, get with the program whatever it is. You don't have to do fifty pushups to vote. And Canada isn't really a foreign country.
*this thread reminded me of reading Pretty Boy Floyd by McMurtry. I read a lot of his stuff and I got to where I could pick out the Diana Ossana parts(she was a co-writer or whatever you call it). The story would be going along and then all of a sudden there would be six pages of fluff. I learned to skip x number of pages ahead and get back to the story.

I almost didn't reply to this because like Lyman I think its a silly strawman argument but I did the research and here goes:
I looked at a bunch of articles on which states make it easiest to buy a gun. Most only list the top ten and Texas didn't make the list on any of them. WallSt.com has a state by state list of which states make it easiest to buy a gun from most lax to most strict. Alabama topped the list as most lenient. On their list Texas was 29th meaning its easier to buy a gun in 28 states than in Texas and harder in 21 so Texas is in the half of states that make it most difficult to buy a gun but not by a lot.
Lets look at the particulars:
ID required: Texas state issued photo id required to buy a gun - yes. Texas issued photo ID required to vote - yes, but U.S Passport or birth certificate will also work. Exceptions for hardship exist in which other ID such as rent receipts or utility bills can be used.
Form required to be filled in to vote in each seperate election - no. Form required to be filled out for each individual firearms purchase - yes.
Background check: Not required to vote. FBI name check required to buy a firearm. Failure to get a clearance in 72 hours requires re submission. Full monty local, state and FBI fingerprint check required for CHL. CHL used as mandatory state issued photo ID exempts buyer from instant check because he/she is already fully vetted, however, some dealers run the instant name check anyway.
when I've vote I walk up to the poll worker, show my ID, it is checked against my residence, I'm given a slip with a machine number and code on it and then vote. Easy peasy. So it is harder to buy a gun in Texas than to vote.Last edited by Art; 06-02-2021, 01:13.Comment

thank you Art,
re the buy a gun,
every single dealer must use the NICS thru the Feds, or in some states, go thru the State Police or agency set up in that state,
all 50 States,, (and PR etc etc)
Va as an example is a POC state, we submit background checks thru the VSP
there is no CHP exemption here, like there are in several other states,
in Va,, to do a legal private sale, you still have to run the buyer thru the VSP (NICS),
ID required is a Valid DL or ID card, and any other Valid ID if your address etc is not correct on your DL\ID
VA requires out of state buyers (long guns only) to provide a second form of ID, which is fairly lenient, (Bank Account, Insurance card, etc,) to confirm the address,
here, up until last year, you just needed your ID or DL (or similar) to vote,
you have to register in VA, and they send you a nice Registration card,
but you don't use it,
show the DL, read off the address to the person (while they hold your ID)
get a slip,
go vote
now, you just have to read off your name and address,
I had my Voter Reg card, and my DL out,, and confused the pol worker,
she was unsure what to check,,,,Comment
