Unless it is Americans heading toward Southern states.

Those that leave for tax purposes mostly still call the U.S. home. When I worked at the refinery a lot of operators put in to work overseas for the extra pay, reduced taxes. They didn't sell their homes here nor relocated their families. Most work was 2-5 year contracts. Their goal was to reach their magic $ amount needed to retire.

And interestingly enough, the only minority-majority state, New Mexico, also has the highest percentage of people on welfare.

Another place that people are retiring to is Panama. When we spent a day there looking at the locks (and buying a Panama hat for fun), our guide who was a British expat told us that a lot of Americans and some Europeans were retiring there because the cost of living was much lower, health care was both excellent and inexpensive, most of the country is considered to be safe and a lot of new apartments were being constructed to accommodate them. When we were there, a 103 story apartment was under construction - a long walk down in an emergency but apparently reasonably priced.

So maybe we should have a deputy sheriff directing traffic and sending the caravans of Central Americans to Panama.

              Panama has a welfare system?

Point was: They wouldn't have refugees unless they had a welfare system.

Everyone is flocking to America to "not work".

Which explains why New Mexico, which now has a Hispanic majority, has the highest percentage of people on welfare.

is there a way to get the breakdown on who gets the gov't welfare funds?

How does a posted table establish causality? Through what mechanism does this

Which explains why New Mexico, which now has a Hispanic majority, has the highest percentage of people on welfare.
become true? Correlation does not establish causality.

If it is obvious then it should be easy to explain to the skeptic.

And remember this, as quoted by Mark Twain in his autobiography?

'There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.'

No stats needed. New Mexico is full of Pueblo Indians. But that's what makes it kind of funky. New Mexico is comfortable with poverty. They know how to work it. It's Mississippi west.

You couldn't pay me to live in Albuquerque.
