The Afghanistan Architect

Bush's error wasn't Afghanistan, his error was Iraq. After that Afghanistan became a sideshow in his eyes and any chance of success, as it proved out, went away. Bottom line, we lost them both. We may have lost them both anyway but IMHO the invasion of Iraq made the outcome we have now inevitable.Last edited by Art; 08-21-2021, 02:05.Comment

I'm with you on this Art, Iraq being an error that is.Bush's error wasn't Afghanistan, his error was Iraq. Way back then when we went into Iraq it was because we were told they were a nation harboring our enemies . They even had weapons of mass destruction we were told { by Fox }
I said to my wife that's fine, but ... " If Halliburton is there within 6 months, deal is off... I ain't buying it "
Halliburton had people there in half that time . And about that time it changed to " Operation Iraqi Freedom " .... what a crockComment

While in Iraq the message from leadership was that we were not an occupation force, but a liberating force. How soon people forget why Iraq and Afghanistan happened in the first place."The first gun that was fired at Fort Sumter sounded the death-knell of slavery. BINGO. If that hadn't happened I strongly believe there wouldn't have been a "Gulf War 2." Other stuff contributed but I personally believe the assassination attempt had "W" spoiling for a fight with Saddam. The other stuff just gave him a more plausible excuse.
"The reckoning" has always had a place in "Ws" life.

Best check back a little farther. Bill Clinton ordered the first attacks on Afghanistan. Maybe he shouldn't get full blame for it though as at that time it was only meant to be a distraction from the bad press he was getting over Monica Lewinsky, the cigar, and the "Blue Dress".Comment

If it's not Biden's fault, why are you arguing that it is?Best check back a little farther. Bill Clinton ordered the first attacks on Afghanistan. Better reassess your argument."The first gun that was fired at Fort Sumter sounded the death-knell of slavery. They who fired it were the greatest practical abolitionists this nation has produced." ~BG D. UllmanComment

What argument, and I didn't mention Biden in my post. We all know that Biden didn't get us into this, but couldn't have made a bigger f****P getting us out, and that is his fault Since you brought up Biden, do you actually think he is capable of finding his way to the bathroom much less orchestrating an orderly exit from Afghanistan? Military out first, everyone else on their own. The French and British went in and rescued their people, but U.S. citizens are on their own.
What is your defense of what Biden has done in Afghanistan?Comment

What do you see as done in Afghanistan? Evacuation and withdrawal is still happening.What argument, and I didn't mention Biden in my post. He took the bullet and will get us out, finally. Your imbecilic position is that we have more to gain by leaving in what way exactly?"The first gun that was fired at Fort Sumter sounded the death-knell of slavery. Trump brokered the deal with the Taliban in February of 2020 to give away Afghanistan. He then reduced troop numbers to around 2500 to placate the Taliban. The dal demoralized the Afghan army as they were not part of constructing the deal. Biden basically held to the deal “negotiated” by Tump with the exception of the extension to the end of August of 2021. That lying SOB Chris Miller (acting DOD) tried to state that Trump was only joshing about the terms of the draw down.
Tracx, I only use this board for yucks as you should also. I find it fiun to read the nonsense of lower, middle class whites as they breathlessly paraphrase Fox.Comment

BTW,
regardless of any deals done, not done, planned, not planned, or how diverse and inclusive the decision making folks were, all that changed in Jan 2021
so if it was Trump, Bush, Clinton, Bush Sr, Obama or even Santa Claus,, it does not matter, the screw ups, if as bad as reported, are all on Biden and his staff,
that with his 47 yrs experience, and all the decorations on the Generals chest, should have known, and planned better,
this comes from an Upper Middle Class White that does not watch FoxComment
