When he was president Jimmy Carter said the worlds oil reserves would be totally exhausted by 2011. You are correct, though, oil, natural gas, and coal are all finite and we need to get used to the idea that it really won't be here forever. Current estimates are 100 years, 150-175 years at the outside, for the reserves we have now but the day of accoutability will come eventually.
You are right about the Nuclear industry on both sides.
The real emissions problems are not here or in Europe. The Chi Coms get 65% of their power from coal and are building more plants. The Indians get 70% of their power from coal. In the recent climate talks they and the true third world countries told everyone else to "pound sand," resulting in an agreement that means, effectively, nothing. That is a truly intractable problem, the real giant hot pink elephant in the room.
Again, I would, again, strongly suggest you watch the Moore documentary I mentioned earlier. It won't make anyone on any side of the issue feel warm, fuzzy, or optimistic.
