Putin's victory in Ukraine was worth the price he had to pay ...

Looking at this from Putin's point of view, he could not let the Ukraine
fall into Western's hands - which is where it was going. The Ukraine
was a principle part of the centuries old Russian Empire and I would
imagine of considerable importance to Putin for both it's size and
more importantly - a matter of pride. I don't think Putin is an idiot,
I think he knew there would be huge repercussions, but to him it was
more important to keep the Ukraine than his ties to the west.
He, or rather the Russian people will suffer from the fallout. I feel
sorry for them but it's always the peasants who suffer, never their
    leaders.
That's the way I see it.

It's not the 19th century anymore and the people of a major nuclear power need to act like free men and women not peasants.

        I don't think he will

threaten,, absolutely, but the Russian people are not the same as they were in 1870 or 1925. or even in the 50's,

better educated, some are very very rich, and overall better off,

they will not let that end,

question is, how much do they know about what is happening,

He wants you to think that and stand by while he takes what he wants. What he wants, not the people. Hence the point about the peasants learning to stand up straight.

It's up to the Russians to get rid of him. One way or the other.

Assuming the nuke threat is a bluff is kinda risky, because being wrong
could bring on a sh!t storm.
Me ? I'd take him at his word - it's safer.

There is no doubt that Putin is not only willing to use nukes but likely intends to do so. He sees the USA as a paper tiger. He wants to be historically remembered as greater than Stalin, Hitler, FDR, or Genghis Khan. A little Hiroshima sized bomb that kills a 100k civilians would just about put him in the top 10 of the biggest jerks the world has ever seen.

Even if 4 billion humans are killed by Putin, he will still be less a jerk than Trump in some peoples opinions.
