I've seen these (pictures and articles). I suppose Jay Leno has one or 2 electrics. I know He has a Stanley Steamer. In reading over this article I suppose the "driving" purpose of these was so women could drive them as most if not all gas cars then had hand cranks.
The quality of fuel back then wasn't too good. It was mostly kerosene/lamp oil. I imagine those old gas engines were hard to start and keep running. Of course electricity wasn't in too many households either.
The horse, mule and steam locomotives were still the best transportation then.Comment

I have a customer that has a few Model T's, he said they run fine, (of course on modern gas) but it is a process to drive one,I've seen these (pictures and articles). WWI I am sure helped with fuel refinement, since the demand went upComment

Lithium batteries are not friendly to the environment. Expensive to produce and buy. The ingredients to make them are hard to come buy. China makes 90% of them and has 99% of the ingredients to make them. China has plenty of coal fired electrical plants to 'fuel' EV's.Comment

The batteries can light off and who knows what a whole bunch of them wired together can do? Early production EV cars did have this problem.
I have an Apple Macbook Pro laptop. I have gone through 3 Apple brand lithium batteries so far and never use the computer. I won't use the word explode because I wasn't there but on 3 occasions I went to use my laptop and the batteries had "swollen" or ruptured (exploded?). The last one had swollen so badly it was about to push the keyboard out thru the top of the computer.
I bought some ebay off-brand batteries since. I haven't checked it lately--guess I need to.Comment

I watched a TV show about a cargo jet (747) that went down when its cargo of lithium batteries, regular batteries as in "As" and "AAs" caught fire. There were hundreds of thousands of these batteries in the hold. The massive fire took the airplane down killing its's crew in short order. The batteries can light off and who knows what a whole bunch of them wired together can do? I think it was Tesla that had a lot of problems with fires too on their early production models. Still an issue though but not as common.
