think about it this way, you may like Ford, another may like Chevy, and I like Toyota, so there will be differing opinions,

however the rude bully name calling types will be infracted to the point of being banned,

in other words, if you think Chevy is the end all be all and proceed to verbally beat down any other vehicle owner over and over, then you will no longer post here

    sound fair?

and think about it this way, it will be your house, we can set up rules etc , as far as behavior and vote on it, via a poll, thread etc, or pm, whatever to set the limits (as in rules)

mob rule?? no, majority rule?? yes,
All sounds good especially the majority rule.

Then there is the question of whether or not wishing physical harm, even sarcastically, is a rules violation. I'd say "no", if the sarcasm is clear, but sometimes the sarcasm isn't clear.

Another thing that will require some clarification is if public figures are fair game or not. There are discussions underway where politicians, because they excite strong emotions in multiple directions, should not be subject to insults, on the reasoning that insulting a politician is no different than insulting the people who voted for them. My own opinion is that this might be more than is necessary to have a forum, but that is just a private opinion.

But the implication is that if Trump is off limits, so is Biden, Harris, De Santis, etc.

At the state level, if Newsome is protected, so is Abbott.

If "Taliban" is in the rear view mirror, then so is "Communists", "Nazis", "Dimocrats", etc.

        Something to think about.

Tried it. I posted a very brief message, hit enter, then got a quick message that said something in the line of "your post will not appear immediately" or something. It blipped off quickly--may be my computer though. At this point I see no new message left by me.

OK, tried it a second time. It seemed to go through normally and I read a little more of the quick message at the end that states. "your message will not show up till a moderator approves it". Again the message blips off too quick to read completely.

lyman you ask for an opinion and I gave it to you and only because togor is the single most destructive force on this forum. Do your job and
boot the idiot or set back and feel like you are being just and fair while members lose interest in the forum and quit coming here.

The Major and Gloria set this up as a gun / shooting forum. That was back in the early 80's (I've been a member since 1982, eventhough the site says 2009 because of lost data from 2 hacks, long outages and being temporarily hosted by MilSurps)

They did put in the 2 A forum which was civil and "honest" while they moderated, but with their deaths, and ownership change thru legal hassle, the 2A forum has become the dominant force here. I know of no other gun site that allows political discussion to take place as it does here even with less vitrol than demonstrated here.

There are social media sites available that have what is demonstrated here in the 2A forum, and that is where those discussions belong, not on a gun / shooting forum.

Now, granted, most of the threads are about old military arms, and those about the AR style are really not as active as other sites dedicated to those guns. I see questions about old mil surp rifles on other forms, more often than here. We know the member knowledge database has left thru attrition or been driven off.

To digress, I would compare this site as it used to be like a "Club" where people sat around in overstuffed leather chairs smoking cigars and drinking brandy, discussing firearms and shooting. Now, I would liken it to a rock opera with strident music in the background, flashing lights and people having to yell to be heard.

Get rid of the 2A political discussion, as the other gun boards have, and get back to our roots and see if we can attract new members.

Eliminate the political forum, and refresh the site.

Without that first important step, it might be wise to download Culver's contributions and board up the windows.

I agree. Replace the political forum with a Military History Forum . The only thing worse than a political forum is a religion forum.

Any forum with this level of "moderation" will die from censorship. We already have this kind of censorship in the social media. Why not get rid of the 2A forum altogether and as Art says, create a Military History forum; we already have something like that in the Military Service forum as a "been there done that".

Get rid of the 2A forum altogether and moderate the site like other gunboards with a no "political statements" rule. Then those that try to circumvent the rule get warned, then banned. I see no other way to attract any new mwmbers when they currently go to new posts to see what the board is like and see nothing but political comments.
