I did but the short 20-30 minute run time and added expense didn't seem worthwhile for something that's only going to get used once, maybe twice a year.
Coffee today?

I've been very critical of them myself due to past experiences but the new ones that take the detachable lithium batteries are much better.
I recently bought a WM (Hart) 2 gallon battery powered sprayer and a small (Hart) battery powered line trimmer. I've yet to run out of battery while using. The bat life on the sprayer is estimated at 60-70 gallons. You will never spray that much at a time.
I have the 18v Dewalt tools and told myself that I would not buy a different brand and have to buy different batteries and chargers but the WM brand (Hart) was so much cheaper I threw that notion out the window.
As far as battery riding mowers, no, I don't think they are there yet and are expensive. Push mowers maybe. If you ever get interested read the user reviews.Comment

I bought a battery powered string trimmer last year. My son and I already had batteries and a charger for the one purchased.
It's no brush hog but it's done what I've asked of it. I just don't ask too much.Comment

I have a 2 acre yard plus I maintain the yard at my Mothers house and my Daughters. I have several gas powered line trimmers and use them for the larger work. I use the batt powered trimmer for small area's when I just don't want to go through the hassle of starting a gas engine.
You can buy same voltage batteries that are stronger/last longer but may cost as much as you paid for the trimmer.
In my case I bought the 20v sprayer ($100 inc batt and charger). Later I saw where they were selling a small line trimmer for $50 inc same 20v batt and charger. The 20v B&C would cost this so the trimmer was free and I have a spare for the sprayer should I need it.Comment

Nice day so far. aving a big family to-do, so lots of Filipino food.
Sipping on a glass of iced calimansi juice, like lemonade but a million times better.
Calimansi is like a cross between orange and lime juice. Next time any of ya'll are at an Asian store, see if they have it.Enfield, everything else is just a rifle. Unless it's a Garand.
Long pig, it's what's for Dinner!Comment

We have the Ego products. I like not have to maintain two cycle engines and dragging an extension cord around. Do need to weed eat before the bush hog stage.Comment

Today will be weed eating / trim the front of the lawn and ditch day.

Shakedown cruise yesterday of the ancient riding lawn mower - got the front yard pert near done - then started making a hell of a racket - disengaged the blades - got it to the garage - first noted the belt was kindly loose - then noted one spindle had broken off the deck and was flopping about - pulley wheel above the deck and the bottom part dragging the ground. Third time to replace the spindle. Cousin got it freed from the deck. Grand start for mowing.Comment

Gotta go along with Chuck here.
When something needs replacing for the third time maybe it's time to replace what it's attached to.
This probably wouldn't be the best time to brag about my walk behind Huskie starting on the first pull.
Lawn actually looks noticeably better compared to yesterday. Watering may have helped in that regard by rinsing off some of the dust I'd raised. Even the car got coated. At least the vole's cover is gone. Close cropping and removing all the overburden left them with nowhere to hide. If nothing else, I kick started the post winter recovery process. It's actually starting to stand up again.

reminds me i need to do the yearly oil changed in the mower, need to check to see if I have a filter,
back from the grand wedding,
the usual stuff,
really nice folks, some not so,
pretty ladies in dresses, and some not so,
decent food,
cheap open bar, (Miller Lite was the top end beer,,,,)
good cake,
in other words, a typical wedding,
meanwhile the now Hubby and Bride are happy, things went well for them,
after we got the Mom in Law settled in the room, with the Sis in Law (mother of the bride) who is in some pain, (scheduled Kidney removal for this Wed) the wife and I popped down to the lobby for an adult beverage and got to listen to a small Jazz band each night,
now, unpack,, etc etc and head to the shop to get caught up after being out for 4 days,
and wait from my brother to bring me my inventory back from a gunshow,
unrelated to the family stuff, got my (renewed) FFL in the mail this weekend, had heard stories of delays and troubles,
but this one only took less than 3 weeks,Comment

Don't know what size your yard is or your budget but when our tractor style 2006 Craftsman mower slung a rod (54" 26hp Kohler) I bought a Scag Patriot zero (52" 22hp Kawasaki). The Scag is commercial grade but near the bottom of the scale. It does maneuver well though with the 52" deck. Watching the local auctions I came across a Toro Z Master zero (60" 27hp Kohler) full commercial top of the scale. It is used but came from the public school system so it was maintained well. It is a beast, a hot rod.Shakedown cruise yesterday of the ancient riding lawn mower - got the front yard pert near done - then started making a hell of a racket - disengaged the blades - got it to the garage - first noted the belt was kindly loose - then noted one spindle had broken off the deck and was flopping about - pulley wheel above the deck and the bottom part dragging the ground. I don't need 2 mowers but learned years ago it is wise to have a backup mower especially with the massive amount of rainfall we get here.
Point being, if you have a big enough yard to justify it a zero turn mower is leaps and bounds ahead in technology over the previous tractor style mowers, a lot better system. I am assuming this is what you have since you said it was old?
Even though my 2 acre yard has a lot of trees and shrubbery my cutting time is way less now.Last edited by Allen; 04-23-2023, 04:57.Comment

Same here with my cheapo Poulan (Briggs 5hp) push mower. Five or six squishes of the primer bulb, gave her a moderate yank and puh....puh....puh....VAROOOOOM.
Bought it in '17, changed the oil and plug exactly zero times, never drain the gas or run it dry at the end of the season either.Comment

There's still a good chance it'll outlast me.
After a week or so of letting the lawn recover, I intend to take another swipe with that power rake, raise the mower deck a notch then spread around some steer manure. Going by this year's snow pack I'll have no reason to worry about impacting water levels when I water. Looking forward to a recovered, green lawn this year.Last edited by Dragonsdad; 04-24-2023, 07:11.Comment
