    Climate Change Data

I'm putting this thread in the bank here for the next time someone steps outside in the winter and feels the cold and decides to make a stupid remark about climate change.

    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...T.nav=top-news

Again, two components to this. Average temperature is a good measure of energy in the system. Having more energy in the system means more energy available to produce exceptional weather events at a higher probability. The weather dice are becoming more loaded every day.

    There are three questions:

    1. Is global warming happening?
    2. If so, what is causing it?
    3. What can we do about it?

    The answers are:

    1. Maybe.
    2. Whatever we say.
    3. Throw money at the problem.

we can just as easily find studies that point to global cooling. in my own narrow window i look at my gas bill and it shows dec was 4 degrees cooler than the year before, and that doesnt even touch the last few weeks which have been way colder than normal.

If it's that easy please do post one and we will dissect. Your data set example is infinitesimally small compared to the entire plant over longer than a century

Temperature change is an excellent metric for change in energy in the system. Anyone who looks at the temperature plot in that article and can only get to "maybe" is either ornery stubborn or just plain thick.

Over the last ten years, satellites show that the Earth is cooling. But that doesn’t suit the needs of the climate criminal community ahead of their convention in Paris this year, so NASA/NOA…

Will look at your link later, leftyo. Meanwhile, for those who are stymied by the NYT paywall, see below. That is a signal we ignore at our peril. The first derivative is not quieting down at all.

Funny thing about that Sam. People are starting to study the effect of more CO2 on food crops. It turns out the nutrient densities go down. A bolus of CO2 forcing all life to carb up. You've seen enough diabetics in your neck of the woods to know what too much Pepsi and Cheetos can do.

Re:Thread in the bank. Interesting article. What then is everyone to do? Is it reasonable to suppose that china and others will tank their economies to go green? Is it reasonable to suppose that Western nations will be any more willing to cut their financial jugular and bleed out their own economies? It does appear that if the problem of global warming really is driven by human development, the only way to deal with it is for portions of humanity to fail to develop. Is that really possible? Sincerely. bruce.

What your blogger discounts as proof of fraud, scientists continue to study as an effect called Global Dimming.

With this effect, industrial emissions, particularly those with sulfur, block or reflect sunlight leading to a reduction in solar energy at the surface. Nova did a program on this around 2005 I think, so the effect was discussed in the public sphere within a time period known to the unnamed blogger.

Will this change minds? No, because they don't want to change. Some people just want someone to tell them that it's okay to not change.

Here it is. NASA has been under Trump control for a year, with three more to go. Surely if NASA is cooking the temperature books, then someone in the administration will expose it. If on the other hand we come to January 2020 and the last 3 years have been say among the 6 hottest in record according to NASA, then any rational excuse for continued denial is evaporated away like a puddle in the summer Arizona heat.

Which is it? Climate change is a hoax or something to fix? 4 years ought to be long enough to expose a hoax.

I could pick that blog post to death, but as you and I already know, it won't change anything.
