          In some cases 1.5 generations.

raising the Minimum wages seems interesting and i know there are Families out there that needs that Money. But No at the expense of the Police department, i am sure the state could boycott other things, other unnecessary spending to meet voters demand.

The benefits of raising the minimum wage: None

Employers will offer fewer hours and cut benefits. They will also be more selective over who they hire too.
Employee's will not be offered as many hours.
The price of items sold will go up in price.
With the increase in price people will buy less.

I don't see where it would take a rocket surgeon to figure this out.

Just because employers are reducing hours to dodge Obamacare fees, you don't think they'd do it for other reasons too? I'm shocked. Flabbergasted. Taking advantage of loopholes....heathens I say, they are all HEATHENS!

Number 1. A family is a RESPONSIBILITY. If you can't carry out your responsibility, you shouldn't assume one. Work your way into a position where you CAN support your family before you start one!

Number 2. Minimum wage raises don't work because they fuel inflation, which eats up the raises. Everyone gets more, but everything costs more, so we're right back where we started.

Number 3. Many jobs go away -- they just aren't worth the increased wages. Remember when you pulled into a gas station and a guy came out and asked, "Fill 'er up?" Where is that guy today?

Number 4. The jobs that go away are the very jobs the poor need to start up the economic ladder. Raising the minimum wage takes the bottom rung away.

Number 5. What about people who make just above the new minimum wage? Don't they get raises, too? See Number 2.

Exactly, and those that make more even. Why go to a ridiculously overpriced college, knock your brains out for 4 years and then be left with a college loan to pay back afterwards just to make $40,000 a year when you can make $35,000 a year swinging off the back of a garbage truck?

As the unskilled labor rates increase the gap closes between them and the skilled labor force. If one goes up the other has to go up otherwise in the near future there will be a drastic shortage of skilled, educated work candidates. The difference in pay just won't be worth the effort in a lot of cases.

If minimum wage jobs are so great and such a sure-fire path to greater affluence, then how come the laid-off middle aged workers aren't celebrating that this is their life now...working minimum wage? Vernon's arguments are from the perspective of someone safely ensconced in the middle class, for whom minimum wage jobs are something for high school kids and maybe sometimes ex-cons.

That job is going the way of the Dodo too. Pickups are being done with a driver/operator now using robotic arms.

An increase in the minimum wage to help offset the COL is one thing. Doubling it overnight will not help to solve anything.

They use those here too. Still, they require 2 people vs the 3 before. It was just an example.
