When the Shah was in power Iran and Israel had very friendly relations. Jimmy Carter pulled the rug from under the Shah and favored the Mullahs. All of our troubles with Iran started back then.

Sid, before Carter came to power it was already happening under Ford and I'm guessing it didn't happen overnight. Every day for months on end the Iranian consulate in Houston was surrounded by protesters calling to oust the Shah. One time I actually stopped and asked what the protesting was all about. I could barely make heads or tails over it at the time, but the Shah was evil and the US needed to get out of Iran's business.
Yes, they pulled out the rug when Carter took office in '76 but it was a long time coming.

Uh-oh....in some eyes I may have just declared myself a Democrat? Doesn't matter that I voted for Ford. Doesn't matter the media ignored it until too late. I said something neutral involving Carter. Yikes!
