Except for the poachers, ivory, rhino horn, etc. the animals shot by trophy hunters are donated to the locals who eat anything from elephant to lion and anything in between .
Too many People = too few Animals ...

many if not all trophy hunts are paid for,
hunter pays big $$$,, hopefully harvests the animal he wants (but only if the locals or Gov't says they can cull that animal) and the meat goes to the local tribe,
nothing is wastedComment

And we're running out of these beauties.
At last count only 4,000 Tigers are left in the wild.
Indians who number about 1,000,000,000 kill Tigers so they won't eat their goats.
I would much rather see Tigers eating Indians.
I guess you guys don't give a sh!t about these magnificent beasts.Comment

My son use to work at the zoo in Gulf Shores, AL. We got to go into the section where they take care of the young animals before putting them in settings for the public to view. This is an old picture (about 15 years ago) of my wife bottle feeding a white Bengal tiger. The 2nd pic is one of the zoo workers. He weighed about 40 pounds at the time. I got to see him again when he was full grown and you could still handle or pet him. As far as I know he is still there. And we're running out of these beauties.

Exactly right. If you kill an elephant in Botswana, for example, you are entitled to the tusks (if any) and one foot to make a wastebasket. Everything else, hide, internal organs, meat and bones belongs to the locals, who will butcher it on the spot.

I would consider a man a more magnificent beast -- but I guess you disagree. And we're running out of these beauties.

I am all for protecting animals -- but tigers aren't being wiped out by "trophy hunters" (which is a kind of liberal code word) but by local farmers.Comment

you are talking about 2 different areas,
Africa, canned hunts or hunts for wild animals, both available
each animal has a price tag, and that tag, as well as which species, is usually set by the country's government, and or the PH,
supposedly, if the locals need meat, you may get to kill an animal or 3, with out paying, but the locals get everything,
and they have problems with poaching as well
India is a completely different issueComment

But basically the problem is too many people. To many poor people, too many rich people. The rain forest is on fire as we speak. I saw this morning that the size of the fire is about half the size of the U.S. The rain forest is an "oxygen machine". Poor people burn it to make room for their cattle. When we get down to the last 500 tigers don't doubt that the price might go up to half a million to shoot one and some rich guy will pay it. But it's OK,'cause they can eat tiger meat. It's for the children. If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.Comment
